University Of Michigan

I was just accepted into the University of Michigan's MT program and I'm so excited. I attended their M Pulse summer program which I loved. I only know one other guy that's been accepted and one girl from the camp.

CMU is my first choice. I'm still waiting to hear from CCM (that was a very scary audition) and CMU (an awesome audition).

P.S. For all you non-dancers out there - don't worry about it I've never had dance classes before just show some personality and you'll be fine.

Add a Texan to the list!
Congratulations!

A little University of Michigan news.

A current senior in the MT program has been cast in the Chicago production of 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. She graduated from the performing arts school my d goes to and we're thrilled for her!

Everyone in the program is very excited for her as well. She is leaving to start rehearsals in a few weeks and will finish her classes by correspondence. In more exciting UM casting news, one 2005 grad has been cast in the San Francisco company of Spelling Bee (in a different role than the Chicago cast member), another 2005 grad is working in the Chicago company of Wicked and a 2004 grad has been cast in the upcoming Broadway revival of Chorus Line. And the beat goes on.....and on......and on.....Go Blue! So proud!!!

More U.M. news:

Another Cincinnati student who graduated from U.M. in 2004 has signed on with the Broadway revival of "A Chorus Line". He'll be covering four lead roles. He is sometime poster Mtgraddad's son. Congratulations to both of these kids. I had the privilege of knowing both of them when they were in H.S. (My D also graduated from the same P.A. H.S. as the U.M. senior in "Spelling Bee".)

Theatermom,
Sorry my post crossed paths with yours. It's good to hear even more good news about the U.M. kids.

Anyone have any idea how many were accepted OR deferred so far for MT at UM? (Pretty soon my sentences will only have 2 or 3 letters, ha ha!)

Well, I can tell you what I know, for what it's worth.

2 females accepted
1 male accepted
1 female deferred
1 male deferred

Hope that helps somewhat. Sorry it took so many letters!!

good luck to you!
xxx,Mary Anna

Thanks, Mary Anna! Are these your own personal students, or ones you have heard about on CC?

Lets talk off the board.

xxx,M.A.

I certainly don't know the answer to that question. I'd imagine only those close to UM would know. Already, isn't "Wisconsin" a boy? So, he got in for MT. I know of a boy who went to my D's theater camp got in for MT as well. That doesn't gel with the list above.

Hey Susan! Is this the one I saw with your d in J&H? Probably not, as I seem to remember he was a lot younger than he looked. Have I seen this boy in any performances at SDM? Or is this the one you told me about who did NOT attend last summer? Sorry; my memory stinks lately....I'm almost ready for "THE HOME".... hee hee....

Or, perhaps, those who's students got into the school, or those who's kids got into the school. We just aren't hearing much about UM acceptances yet. Our student at the local HS hasn't heard a thing yet and it's been quite awhile.

Let me clarify:
That's all I personally know of. Not all there is to know.

xxx,M.A.

Mary Anna, thanks for clarification.

RossJi....no you never saw this boy. The one you are talking of from Jekyll/Hyde looked older and acts older than he is. He was sixteen in the show (like my D was) but is currently in 11th grade (like my D is supposed to be chronologically). He did just visit her at Tisch. The boy who got in was new to SDM last summer and arrived right after my D left. Have heard wonderful things about him. Most of my D's friends are older than herself and are in college. She has one SDM friend auditioning this year and she just visited with her this past weekend while there to audition.

Susan

Well, I only know about friends my D made at last summer's UM program. She is only a junior, so isn't on the audition circuit yet, but her friends from the program sure are! So far we know of one deferred girl (Mary Anna's student I believe), one accepted girl from the Pittsburgh area, one deferred boy and two accepted boys (one of them being WISCONSIN). Several others have only auditioned recently, so I'm sure we'll be hearing news soon! Good luck to everyone auditioning at UM and at all the other programs. It's so exciting to hear the good news that is finally starting to arrive for CC kids (and parents, LOL). I wish the best to all of you!!!!

NYDancemom,

Did all of the accepted/deferred to UM kids you mentioned participate in the MPulse/Summer MT program with your D last year?

Theatermom
Yep, that's all I know about for sure, and they are from last summer's MPulse kids. Some of those accepted to UM have also been accepted to some other VERY good programs and are waiting to hear from others and have not decided to accept the UM offer yet. Only a few kids from our area that I've heard about are even auditioning for "MT ivy type" programs like UM, and those that are tend to go for NYU, Ithaca, Syracuse, and BoCo for some reason. Closer to home I guess, so we hear about them more.

I got my letter from Michigan today, and I didn't get in. :( Sigh Tis okay though - it's not going to stop me from having a dazzling career in MT, and it's certainly not going to stop me from getting a BFA in the next three years (BoCo wants me, woohoo!!!) I also feel like, if the school doesn't want me, then why should I want the school? Obviously, we have different ideas about what kind of talent makes a lasting, memorable performer.

Congrats to anyone who HAS been accepted!!! :)

Samia, sorry this one didn't work out. You gave it what you've got and it went well on your end and it is what it is. It isn't about getting into a single program but just that you find a program that will lead to your goals. You have one that sounds like you're in and you have a couple yet to hear from. You just need one.
