University of Minnesota Chances

Minnesota is my top choice. I am concerned because they only want grades and sat. I have a 1450 sat, however I got a 3.0 my freshman and sophomore years. I got a 3.9 my sophomore year so I hope that counts for something. What are your opinions?

What were your first and 2nd choices for college (CLA, CSOM, CSE, CEHD, etc)? UMN admits directly to the colleges and some are harder to get into than others.

1450 is a fine score for all of them so no worries there. Is the 3.0 uw or w? The upward trend will help and hopefullly you provided an explanation for the lower gpa and the reasons for improvement.

Course load is also very important: they want to see a college prep curriculum with as many honors or AP’s as you can handle (or that your school provides).

Good luck to you!

Thank you for your response. I am applying into Twin cities as a pre vet major. And the 3.0 is w from the years before

Is pre-vet in the College of Food, Ag. and Natural Science (CFANS) Or College of Liberal Arts (CLA)? Again UMN (TC) admits by specific college. Did you specify a backup major/college?

What was your unweighted GPA from before? This is what is holding back your decision.

It’s thee college of Biological Sciences. Yes my unweighted gpa from before was a 3.0. This year I received a 3.9.

Ok - CBS is going to be a bit of a reach with your overall GPA, which I am calculating to be about a 3.3 (3.0, 3.0, 3.9). Your SAT is very good - my guess is that you’ll squeak into CBS or, more likely, end up in CLA or CFANS. Neither is a bad choice and both would likely support a pre-vet career.

You’ll need to make sure you’ve taken Bio, Chem, and Physics (one year of each in HS) in order to support your college studies (and to help your chances in CBS).

Good luck to you!

Thank you! I have taken those courses. Can I apply to all three of those school within twin cities?

All three colleges are part of UNM-TC. However, you can only apply to two at most, if the application is still like prior years. Be sure to specify first and 2nd choice on the application.
