Hello!
I’m currently doing my college search. I plan on majoring in MT. Cost is a huge issue (as most of you know), so while I have looked into schools such as UMich, CCM, etc, I have also looked into a few cheaper schools.

University of Northern Colorado has a MT program. It’s a BA, not a BFA though. However, they DO have senior showcase in NYC which is GREAT!

Can anyone tell me if the MT program at UNC is good or not?

Thanks!

Also, I’m applying for the Carnegie Mellon summer Diversity program in drama, specifically music theatre!

I know your post is several months old, but thought I’d respond anyway! I’m new to this board, just joined a couple of weeks ago. I am a UNC alum (BME) and my D will be auditioning there this fall, since it’s in-state for us. I loved UNC when I went there, the music department is one of the strongest in the state. Their MT program is pretty highly regarded in the state. The only 2 negatives I have heard are that they had a professor last year who was arrested for sexual harassment or molestation, can’t remember the details (I believe he’s gone now, maybe in jail) and my daughter’s coach has told her that nobody really comes to UNC’s NY showcase, but I’m kind of taking that with a grain of salt. They certainly seem to have lots of alumni actively working in NYC and elsewhere.

I’m curious to know if you decided to apply there? Anyway, good luck this audition season!

You can google Vance Falkerson for information about this professor who was sentenced in March 2010 to 4 years in prison.

Thank you!
I still am going to apply. My dad lives in Colorado and I apply as a resident. I have heard about the professor getting arrested. I hope he wasn’t extremely significant to the program, Lol.

It really does seem like so many alum of UNC are working in NYC, among other places. It’s encouraging!

I also would not base where you apply on whether or not the program does a NY showcase. While showcases certainly have their benefits, it should not make or break the program. If you investigate and find that you feel the program is a strong one with good faculty, definitely apply, even if their showcase is not highly attended.

I was just talking with David Grapes, Director of the School of Theater & Dance, which houses the mt program. I was impressed by the number of students he had working on and off Broadway and on tours and such, also, the number of guest artists and master classes they are able to offer.
