@shire17 Congrats!! Is Pitt your top school?

Dd just received merit award letter - full tuition and invite to apply for Chancellor’s!! So thrilled!! It’s her first choice and she joins my ds (Pitt class of '15) and dd (Pitt '17). H2P!!!

@hailtopitt1787 It was from the October ACT, so they should be there by now or arriving within a week or two. If I’m already accepted, has the scholarship committee already gone over my file, or is there a chance they’ll review it again?

@Packrat5000, there is a good chance the Scholarship Committee has yet to review your file, or reviewed it after your October scores came in. They did not start meeting until the beginning of November!

@Chelsey123, that is something the graduate admissions committee looks at and decides. You should certainly talk with an academic advisor further to plan your unique academic path. When a graduate admissions committee looks at your application, they are looking at your academic performance, the rigor of the academic program you participated in, your interest in research, test scores, GPA, extracurricular involvement, and that sort of thing. Our office does not handle graduate admissions, so I can’t really advise you much on this subject, but I will say that many Pitt graduates have gone on to very good graduate schools, including graduate programs here at Pitt.

@pie424, I’m curious to know the same. My son did not receive what others here have gotten in terms of merit and yet he has similar stats. He will have to start looking at some other schools to see if he can get a better merit package elsewhere. Ugh! We thought he was set on Pitt but I can’t see that happening with our out of pocket costs. Right now, I think his only chance is to get a something from the Engineering dept. @hailtopitt1787, do you know when the various colleges start reviewing applicants for their scholarships?

Did the scholarship notification come in a small or big envelope?

@curiousinpa I noticed a few of the full tuition recipients had chosen bioengineering, is that in the Engineering school or Arts and Sciences? Could your son switch to that if he might be interested in med school later?

Is Swanson just extra competitive?

@curiousinpa I’m curious too! S hasn’t gotten anything and money is being thrown around like candy at a parade–I’m kind of taken aback because his stats are as high, and mostly higher than any I have seen reported.

The scholarship letter came in a big envelope. My daughter is a chemistry major and will most likely have a double major ( if allowed) in chemistry and Spanish. She noted " pre-med" on her application.

I think the committee has probably only met twice so far, so they take a certain number of files and decide on them each week and hailtopitt1787 said that sometimes a student’s file will go through review several times.
The students that received the full tuition offers with Chancellor invites seem to have at least a 34 Act, 3.9 uw GPA and high class ranks. Seems like quite a few have just recently been accepted in October.

@mommdc, the scholarship envelope was a big white envelope (8.5 x 11). My son’s letter was dated 11/11. I was honestly shocked that he did not receive full tuition like everyone else reported. His stats were higher than some others too. He is a Bioengineering major and I think Swanson is pretty competitive but I am hoping that he will receive a scholarship from them. Not sure he’d be interested in switching at this point…
He did receive an invite to apply for the Chancellor’s as well as the Stamps. They are both such a long shot but he is certainly still applying!
@ProudMomx3, hopefully your son will be reviewed this week and receive a letter by the weekend. My son applied on June 3 and was accepted on Aug 22nd. In retrospect he thinks that it hurt him. Seems like everyone who was awarded full tuition applied in October. It was our understanding that applicants are reviewed in the order they were accepted so we honestly thought he was bypassed in the process when we started seeing everyone else reporting their awards. In the end we are grateful that he was offered something but reality is that gratitude doesn’t pay the bills.
Good luck to everyone is who still waiting!

My daughter applied on September 4 but her application was complete on October 6th. The transcript was the last item to arrive.

Thank you @twogirls, I got a big envelope but trying not to get hopes up, I’m not allowed to open it until D gets home, lol.

Did it have other info about student conduct, international services, division of student affairs, outside of classroom curriculum included? That’s all I can see through the envelope.

The letter came with an information sheet about paying the deposit, scholarship info such as minimum gpa, what happens during study abroad, etc. My daughter also received a letter from the Chancellor a few days before getting the scholarship - that may not matter as it was mentioned that he sends letters out to everybody (?). The Chancellor letter ( saying congrats) came in a small envelope).

Good luck. I know how stressful this is.

@curiousinpa - can’t you ask for reconsideration?

@FromMD, I believe you can only do that if you have scholarship awards from other schools that show that your out of pocket costs will be less to go to the other school. We’ll see what other schools offer him.

@twogirls and @curiousinpa, thanks. We applied early as well, mostly because of the conditional guarantee. I also thought that the first apps would be reviewed first especially the ones before priority deadline.
Anyways it’s hard to wait and hope for the best. It’s good that you have the Chancellors invite.
