@atukutti, are you from OOS? Your stats look great to me. In this link it explains the criteria for GAP, seems like you might qualify, and you applied and were accepted before Dec 1. I would check my email address that you used to apply to Pitt. Hopefully you will hear soon.

Sorry I forgot to post the link.

It’s ok thanks and yes I am OOS (NJ). Does that make a difference?

I’m not sure but hopefully you will hear soon.

@atukutti, as I just mentioned in the comment above, anyone who is selected for merit scholarships will be notified between now and March 1st. The committee meets weekly to make decisions. The fact that you have not heard yet does not have any bearing on your chances, as the committee sometimes reviews applications several times before making a decision. Thanks for your patience and good luck!

As for declaring a major, you can do that when you meet with your academic advisor. For pre-med students you have a lot of options for your undergraduate major. We have health professions advisors who will help you get the foundation you need to succeed in med school: http://www.honorscollege.pitt.edu/health-professions-advising

Sorry I was just panicking… Anyways I got my 8 year GAP invitation today!!

Well great! I thought your stats should qualify.

Hi all! Is the Honors College housing only for incoming freshmen? If not, can a sophomore student enter the college and use its facilities, including housing (if GPA is higher than 3.25 and etc)?

There is honors housing for upperclassmen. Here is more information and a FAQ: http://www.honorscollege.pitt.edu/housing

-Pitt Admission Staffer

Does that apply to transfer students as well as existing Pitt students with a housing guarantee?

@hailtopitt1787 - Is there a separate application for GAP (8 YEAR - Medical)? If so when do we expect the invitation to apply? If denied do we get the communication?

My son is accepted on priority status application back in Oct and SAT score are above the required scores.

Students selected to apply for the Med School GAP will hear no later than January 9th. Here is more information about the process: http://www.medadmissions.pitt.edu/admissions-requirements/guaranteed-admissions.php

Edit for updated information:

@mommdc, Students must have a housing guarantee to qualify. From the site:

"Eligibility
Please note the following requirements for applying to Upperclass Honors Housing:

-Applicants must have completed a minimum of one term at the University by the time of application.
Preference is given to applicants with a 3.25 GPA; applicants with GPAs below a 3.25 will be considered, but should answer the optional GPA question in the application.

-Applicants must have a Housing Guarantee (check with Panther Central for more information on the Housing Guarantee). Students without housing guarantees cannot be considered for Honors Housing.

-If applying with suitemates, everyone must be the same gender & complete a separate application, which are considered individually. There is a part of the application where you are asked how you want
us to consider your application if one or more of your suitemates are not accepted."

If you have specific questions about how the Honors Housing application works that are not answered in the information on the site, you can also contact hhousing@pitt.edu.

@starissa, check out post #300 for your answer

@hailtopitt1787 - can you tell me how many students are invited to apply to GAP-Med and how many are invited to on campus interview?

@FromMD, This is taken from our site: “The choice of final candidates is contingent upon this interview in combination with other factors. Historically, an average of 8-12 students from the entering undergraduate class are chosen each year for the School of Medicine guarantee.”
