University of Pittsburgh-Class of 2019 Acceptance

HI does the scholarship committee meet on applications as they come in, or by school admitted to, or by major? Thanks!

@kostoffa4‌, I am not a part of the Scholarship Committee so I am not 100% sure how they sort applications, but here is the information they give me about their process to pass along:

“Due to the competitiveness of the scholarships, some students go through two, sometimes three, reviews before a final decision is made. While some students find out about a scholarship quite early, possibly within three weeks of being admitted, many more do not find out until much later. Bottom line, those students selected to receive an award will find out no later than March 1st.”

Good luck!

Thank you. :slight_smile:

Got letter yesterday. son awarded $10k/yr scholarship. We are OOS/NY. Nice offer but annual cost still a bit high for us and still more than the SUNYs. Still waiting to see if we get any financial aid but don’t expect much if any there. Still keeping our options open and applying for additional scholarships.

S accepted to Pitt in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences with an intended field of study in Computer Science.

@hailtopitt1787‌

Invited for chancellors scholarship interview and I’m really excited! I had some questions though:

  1. I heard that several years ago Pitt would reimburse students $500 for travel/hotel expenses. Does that still hold true?
  2. How many students are interviewed each year for the chancellors scholarship, and how many of those students are offered the scholarship?
  3. Does the order in which you receive the interview invitation indicate your likeliness to win the scholarship (I.e. Last people to interview have a greater chance or vice versa?)

Thanks for your help!!

@starwatch‌

First of all, congratulations!

  1. I am not sure of the answer to this, but I will ask when I am in the office tomorrow and let you know.
  2. About 60 are interviewed and 12-15 are awarded.
  3. I don't believe the order has anything to do with your chances.

Best of luck!

Sent in my application at the beginning of January, got my acceptance today! So happy as this is my first acceptance. It feels good to have the last four years of hard work I’ve done validated. My stats:
2050 SAT I (650 CR, 710 Wr, 690 Math)
Not sure what my GPA is for freshman-junior year
 but my UC GPA is around 3.56. My GPA was definitely the weakest part of my application. My courseload was also pretty pathetic. Surprised
 I got accepted for Computer Science. I submit a rec letter, essay, and music recordings which probably helped. I had extensive leadership experience and pretty good EC’s overall.
Yay :slight_smile:

@starwatch‌, The University Honors College is managing this specific scholarship, so I just got some contact information for you. For questions about the Chancellor’s Scholarship, it is best to contact the Honors College directly (they house the database and are managing all aspects of the scholarship, so you will get information much more speedily if you contact them). Their number is 412-624-6880 and they will be happy to help you!

In response to your specific question: unfortunately, it is not possible to offer travel reimbursements for the CS interviews this year.

Best of luck!

@hailtopitt1787‌
Thank you for answering my questions and getting that contact information for me. I can’t wait to visit Pitt again!!

@starwatch‌, Congrats again! We can’t wait to welcome you on campus. Best of luck!

The Pitt website said that students who apply by January 15th are automatically considered for merit scholarships. I applied on the 15th and was accepted about a week later. Recently I got invited to the honors college, but I haven’t heard anything about scholarships yet. Does anyone know if I applied too late?

Nevermind, it actually just came in the mail!

@hailtopitt1787‌ Does one have to have a combined CR and M SAT Score of 1350 to be considered/recieve merit scholarships if they meet all the other requirements? Thanks!

Hello Everyone. I got accepted all the way back in October to the honors college, business honors, and guaranteed acceptance into the MBA program. However after all that I still have heard no word on scholarships. I figured since I had been accepted through graduate school that I would receive some form of scholarship. Any ideas?

@sark346‌, I am not on the scholarship committee, so I do not want to speak for them. But in the past, students who were awarded scholarships had all of the characteristics listed on our site.

Best of luck!

@hailtopitt1787 any ideas on the situation Im having that I posted
any help at all would be amazing

@hailtopitt1787‌ Thanks!

@ivyhopeful‌97,
The Scholarship Committee is meeting weekly until March.

Due to the competitiveness of the scholarship process, it is not unusual for students to go through two, sometimes three, reviews before a final scholarship decision is made. While some students learn about an academic scholarship shortly after being admitted, many more students do not learn about their scholarship award until much later. Bottom line, if a student is selected to receive a scholarship, they will find out no later than March 1.

So, if you haven’t heard yet, that is not a sign that you will not hear anything. Our committee is working hard to review applications and notify applicants of decisions before March!

Best of luck!

@hailtopitt1787 OK thank you! I just figured I would have heard sooner do to the MBA acceptance thing because I have never seen that before, but I guess I will continue to wait patiently
