University of Pittsburgh Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

Around how long is it taking people who submitted their application through common app to receive a decision?

@hailtopitt1787 , my daughter got her acceptance letter last week (yay!)
She took the ACT again yesterday; if she gets a better score could it improve her scholarship chances?

I think I posted this in the wrong thread yesterday so copying over to here!

Our daughter’s buttons on the app changed today! She wasn’t expecting anything to happen on a Saturday but sure enough, the app changed today! We are very excited but want that email or snail mail for confirmation.

Daughter is out of state, public school, 4.25 weighted GPA (do not know unweighted - school does not provide), lots of APs and good extra curriculars, spent a semester abroad during high school, 30 on ACT. She was accepted into the Swanson School of Engineering.

Is there anyone who didn’t write their essays jam packed with extracurriculars? I applied 10/17 but my essays were more just about a situation that occurred or something. Did I accidentally write them wrong?

My daughter did not explain her vast, very impressive extracurriculars in her short answer essays at all. But really, that’s not what they were asking with their question prompts.

In the end, perhaps it doesn’t matter because Pitt is very open about the fact that they rely more heavily on stats for admission.

My daughter applied to nursing (with 4.1 GPA, 1250 SAT, all APs and honors, and all the very impressive extracurriculars) and was denied at the main campus, and admitted to the Johnstown campus. The college website her high school uses gave her a 91% chance of being admitted.

She’s hoping that schools with a more holistic approach will accept her.

@scholarme, Yes, if she receives an improved ACT score that would be a great thing to share with us for scholarship consideration.

If the buttons in the Pitt app change to Accept or Decline, does that mean I’ve been accepted? I applied via Coalition on October 14.

@AC19411 - Yes. Congratulations. Next you will get a letter in mail.

how long does it take to receive a decision?

Do the To Do’s on the left side in the app mean they are waiting for these things. It is stating application fee, SAT/ACT scores (they have one set but we have others that were sent last week), and transcripts. I figured the fee and transcripts would be pretty instant since they are paid at the time the application is submitted and the transcripts should have been downloaded through the common app at that time as well. They all say initiated.

@hailtopitt1787 ,
there seems to be some update email. Once D is able to check, will post back here.

@learning19, Yes - it can take several weeks to receive a decision once the application is marked complete. Our staff are working hard to review your application as quickly as possible, but we have quite a high volume to work through. You should hear back from us in the next few weeks. Good luck!

@jdkpa21, Unfortunately, processing our applications is not an entirely instantaneous process. If you submitted those items through the application, your portal should show that your application is complete in the next few business days!

So our daughter’s buttons changed to accept/decline on Saturday. Today she got the email with a decision, and a “click here to find out…” But the link is broken! We have tried to open it on two iPhones and two MacBooks and it seems there is a technical problem. GAH!! @hailtopitt1787 any info? Thanks!

Okay - never mind! After multiple tries and devices, the awesome video loaded! So cool! Thanks, Pitt Admissions for such a special touch with the video!

Just curious to know if anyone has received a decision from the business school yet? Thanks!

@RabbiBeth, I just checked with my colleagues. It seems a large volume of decisions have been made and it is overloading the server. I would recommend that you try again in just a little bit - it should work soon! We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks so much, @hailtopitt1787

Our Daughter was just accepted. We could not be prouder. We live in North Carolina and have no connection to Pittsburgh, but our youngest always found Mr. Rogers inspiring, and so had PITT as one of her top 3 choices almost from the get go. For those curious on the Stats. She applied on 10/9, they considered her application Complete on 10/19, and we got notified today 10/29. Good luck to all the applicants.

Just got email for my acceptance today for OOS. stats: 1400 SAT, 8 AP’s, varsity xc and track 4 years, lots of clubs, created a charity
