Still wondering if her 1400 hurt her. She took it in 2019 as prep for retake and improvements. Those vanished.
You can brag, sounds like a great work ethic.
@engDad63 She emailed her representative again Friday afternoon. She is Dietrich.
@engDad63 I’m sure it wont be long, the zoom was with the regional rep from suburban Philly and was sent to parents of kids that had applied from that area. I’m not exactly sure how it was generated, we have D18 attending now, so maybe that had something to do with it. Good Luck.
@MPT3D Thanks, fingers crossed.
@phlped Good luck
.
@engDad63
I also applied to Swanson and heard back in just 6 days after my application was marked complete. I have the same GPA as your daughter, but my SAT was a little higher, so maybe that made the difference.
Still, 3 months is way too long, and I hope you can work things out.
Congratulations. Could you please share the time line of the admission process. Like when was the merit aid offered ?
@engDad63 It can’t be her SAT score, especially if the score is over a year old. Kids with much lower scores get accepted. It has to be a glitch. I would call the admissions rep and explain that it has now been 3 months and her stats are above average for Pitt. Ask if there is anything else you can submit to help them make a decision. I’m so sorry the process has been so frustrating for you guys.
@engDad63 sorry about that! I’ve added Washington County to the correct representative. Her name is Amaya Christie, you can find her on there!

Hi all,
I know I was interested in learning about students’ merit awards so I’m posting my son’s results here. $15K a year for in-state. 3.93 UW, 4.99 W. 1570 SAT. Applied early September and admitted two weeks later to Dietrich. He wrote two supplemental essays. Received letter in the mail today. So happy to get merit aid. Good luck to you all.
Congratulations. Great stats. Is he applying to the Honors program?
@PAparents2020 He has applied to the Honors program.
My S got his acceptance letter from Swanson today. He was offered admission to graduate program. 4+1 program. No merit money. If you didn’t get merit in acceptance letter is it safe to stay you are Not being offered merit?
@Ftttre My son applied 9/13, received acceptance email on 9/24 and received merit letter in mail on 10/31.
@EngDad2024 That SAT is not too low, my D has similar stats (1420 SAT) and GPA etc. She was accepted in 3 weeks and got some merit money today. Sounds like there is an issue.
Our merit came in a separate letter from admissions.
That’s encouraging as I wondered if merit letter came at the same time as acceptance letter. Thank you and congratulations. Were you happy with merit offered?
My son applied 9/6, admissions letter received 9/18- Swanson plus masters guarantee, in-state, merit letter received today. Stats 3.98 UW, 4.32 W, 1540 SAT. Honors applied for.
@Ftttre It was the merit I was expecting based on what I read from last year that they really focus most on needs based. She got $5,000 a year for four years plus guaranteed admission to Public Health School (with $5,000 too). It sounds like the vast majority who got merit got that. A few super super high kids got $10,000 a year but not many.
