University of Portland to University of Washington?

Hello! I am an incoming Freshmen at the University of Portland and I want to transfer to the University of Washington next year 2014-2015. I was accepted into UW the first time around but my parents decided for me that I should go to UP because it's a Catholic university... Only now do they realize that UW has more academic opportunities and is a better fit for me. UW has been my dream school since I was in 7th grade. I am a Biology major. I want to major in Biochemistry, but UP doesn't offer it (a reason I want to transfer, as well).

So, I was wondering, how hard is it to transfer into UW? Does it help that I was accepted last year? Is it easier to transfer during the summer and continue as a degree seeking student in Autumn 2014? Should I just jump the gun and transfer next semester? Any advice on a successful transfer? (Other than getting good grades, extra curriculars, a superb personal statement, etc).

Does my dream have a second chance?

I truly appreciate all of the advice! :D

Have you called UW to ask if perhaps they will still take you a freshman this year? Or in the Fall of 2018? You could then take some CC courses or take a gap year…it would certainly be better (easier) to do this now than risk not getting accepted as a transfer.

Unfortunately, I’m all set to go to Portland this year. A gap year or CC is out of the question (parents are very very nit picky). I don’t mind going to Portland, but if I have the second chance to go to UW this time around, I will definitely attend and my parents will (finally) support me.

Nothing is set until you go…what would be lost if you called UW to ask?

Just the fact that you prefaced your last response with “unfortunately” should at least lead you to make that one call…

I agree that it’s worth a call, stranger things have happened.
