University of Richmond / Wake Forest - similiar schools

University of Richmond and Wake Forest- Can anyone compare these two schools? I think they are very similiar southern schools. Comparable student body and academics, although Richmond may be slightly better rated. Both conservative schools with beautiful campuses and homogeneous students? Are there any major differences?

Wake has better sports (ACC). You've raised a good question...they are both very good schools and are very similar to each other...and also very similar in selectivity. Are you applying to both? You can't go wrong with either one.

I believe Wake Forest is religiously affiliated w/ the Baptist Church. Richmond has no religious affiliation.

Wake is no longer affiliated with the Baptist Church. Good move.

Wake has a better rep, IMO.

no I'd go with Richmond over Wake personally.

MomofWildChild- Wake Forest is no longer affiliated with the Baptist church technically. However, they still offer Poteat scholarships to selected Baptist students, so they still honor their Baptist background.

As far as choosing WFU or Richmond, I agree with cavalier302. The two are very similar. I visited both, but I really only liked Wake Forest. The student body was friendlier, and the overall atmosphere seemed to be more relaxed. You may want to compare programs; Wake Forest, for example, has a lot of pre-med/pre-business/foreign language students. Richmond, however, has more students in the arts. I wouldn't bother comparing campuses; the two are very similar (Wake seems overly fond of Magnolias, though :)). Wake Forest has superb study abroad programs. Richmond tends to offer better financial aid, though.

Thank you all for your ideas. I'm from the North, these schools are both southern schools, therefore not very well recognized here in NJ. Do you think these school have or will ever have national recognition? My dad thinks NAME recognition is important when looking for a job, so choosing a school in the North would be more beneficial. I really liked both schools, but prefer Richmond because of the Leadership School and International Business program. I think these schools are well respected even here.

I know Richmond has the reputation of being a "country club" sort of rich kid school, but I thought the kids were really nice, just a little stressed out because it was exam week. Is this true about being a school for rich kids? Maybe I won't feel comfortable there. The tuition is high, but it's high everywhere, except for the state schools.

Wake has a better reputation overall and much friendlier student body. Richmond is trying hard to establish a NY presence but the Robin School of Business is just not quite there. I would consider Elon as well because they offer strong internship programs and the student body is friendlier.

IMO these two schools have similar reputations. Richmond is smaller with a LAC feel while Wake is a mid-sized university with fairly big-time sports. It really just depends on what type of experience you want in a college.
