University of Rochester Class of 2021 Regular Decision Discussion

@Clevelander2021

Yes the Meliora Alumni Scholarship is renewable for the same amount every year. There is a GPA requirement, I think.

@blue221 Last week rejections came out on the 7th and acceptances on the 9th so there was a full day in between where we heard nothing. Idk if they’ll be ready to send out another round of decisions so soon since rejections and waitlists only came out yesterday but we can hope!

I have mentioned earlier in this thread that my S applied DDE and had already been accepted by the Eastman School of Music, but was missing the acceptance from the University of Rochester. Well today UofR also accepted him so he is fully accepted into the dual degree program. I don’t know how this impacts other notices coming from UofR today, but I wish you all the best of luck and that your decisions are quick to come.

@DrCounsel Congratulations to you and your son!!! Do you mind if I ask you how guys found out? Was there and email or something sent out and when did you get it?

@thisgirlcodes Thank you. We are all very excited about this opportunity. I am not sure about the email. He is away today and I haven’t been able to ask him yet if there was an email. I just checked his Eastman portal this morning around 11:30 and there was a new notice posted indicating he had been accepted into DDE. As of now, his MyROC page still is showing that he is on Step 4.

So no decision today?

Does anyone know if ED deferred applicants have a less chance of being accepted in comparison to other RD applicants? The admissions office told me that the ED deferred students still haven’t been looked at again, and still have a couple weeks till decisions so wouldnt that mean that there are less spots for the ED deferred applicants therefore reducing our chances?

@Karachibound I mean I havent even received a decision yet and I hope to be accepted. I think that only one batch was released and (IMO) I think UR handled the batches poorly this year by releasing so many apparent acceptances in that one cause it causes the other half or 1/3 or even 1/4 of students (I think 1/2) to overly stress. ED defers at pother comparable schools have about half as much a chance of being admitted so about 15% I would imagine at UR

@jkgreen27 wait half as much a chance? Why? I thought that maybe it would be more or atleast the same because we show more interest in the school. It cant be that low just because we applied ED freaking out

Don’t worry @Karachibound I only know off of experience at some other schools Idk about rochester they dont have a presented atmosphere that would imply a lesser chance

@Karachibound a friend of mine was deffered in ED and she got her decision yesterday, i guess they started taking decision for ED deffered students in the RD pool

@Meshmesha do you mind if I ask if she was accepted? I dont know, I feel like, looking back at previous years, I didnt see many ED deferred applicants being accepted in the ED pool

when will the next batch come out?

Was hoping it would be today, but seems it’s too late for that now.

Could someone else also offer some input on what the chances are for ED deferred applicants?

It doesn’t have conditions. Here is the letter:

International Baccalaureate Scholarship “$25,000”
International Baccalaureate Scholarship winners have excelled in one of the most rigorous college preparatory programs available. This award is an acknowledgment of your hard work and determination. Your preparation through the IB Diploma Programme makes you an ideal candidate to take advantage of the learning environment that makes the University of Rochester so unique.

Since our investment in you is among the largest we can offer to any student, we have high expectations for your continued success at the University of Rochester. You are expected to achieve and maintain a 3.0 GPA while making reasonable academic progress toward earning your bachelor’s degree in eight full-time semesters. An annual review process and dialogue will begin in January 2017 after your first three semesters at Rochester, and students achieving consistently less than this standard might not receive a scholarship renewal for the following year.

Does being in a later batch decrease my chances for admission? I’ve been in step 4 for over a month now.

Any letters coming out today? Or are they done for the week?

When should I expect an email?

*** BTW do you guys think Rochester views a LOW SAT/ACT score as a deal breaker when the rest of the application is competitive? (1300 and 27)

When do you guys think the next batch of letters will be out? I’ve been stuck in stage 4 for almost a month now.
Also, how important is an interview for admission (I wasn’t able to give one). Does it reduce my chances?
Have you all given an interview?
