Anyone who applied for need-based aid and got their aid package already?
General question: Does URoch cover full-need for international students ?
Accepted today.
SAT: 1200
GPA: 4.0
@KoliInd99 the portal didn’t allow me to view my decison for a day. I needed aid and I’m international but my SAT is in the 1500s so I hoped on that. I didn’t send in my subject tests so that kinda made me nervous
@Jujuondatbeat Thanks for letting me know!
Hey guys, how do we know which major we’re going into for university of rochester? I know I applied as psychology major but I just wanted to confirm. Thanks guys!
One of the great strengths of the Rochester Curriculum is freedom. You don’t need to declare a major until sophomore year. Here’s more about the process from the website: http://www.rochester.edu/college/sophomores/declare/
My son was admitted yesterday. Applied in September.
ACT 32
wgpa-4.434
uw-3.888
They rejected me alright but it was a weird rejection letter.
They said “Can’t accept you as a first first year student” and later on suggested a transfer.
Unorthodox, to be honest.
I was admitted yesterday and thought those still waiting might want to hear my stats.
GPA: 3.93 UW. (5 APs taken in total, 2 Community College courses)
ACT: 30 Composite, 31 SS.
EC: Varsity Crew, American Legion Boys State, Debate, Drama and Choir (musicals and concerts mainly), Volunteering, CAP.
Excellent recommendations.
Homeschooled so potential hook, but sometimes it’s difficult to tell if it is a positive or a negative.
Okay essays-I did apply for the Simon Scholars Competition and was not accepted, but it may have helped since it showed interest.
My interview went decently, although it is always difficult to tell, in my opinion, since you cannot compare it to other interviews.
Overall, I think this just shows that UOR is extremely holistic in their review (seeing as my ACT score isn’t that high comparatively to other applicants), so there is no reason to worry if you have “lower” standarized test scores. I’m really excited about the whole situation (mainly because UOR has been my top choice from the beginning) and good luck to everyone who is still waiting!
@TheGoldenDwarf - the Rochester Curriculum is the reason my son chose UR (he’s currently a junior). Thanks to the non existent gen ed requirements, my son will graduate with 2 degrees within his four years as an undergrad - a BS in Bio and a BA in Polysci. Sure, these are not really related, but they are his passion and it’s the whole point of the Rochester Curriculum. I remember a spokesperson saying they don’t want any two students graduating with the same set of courses; they want individuals to be themselves.
Anyway, this thread is about RD and I want to wish you all the best of luck.
If you are planning to attend UR, take advantage of what they have to offer. Follow your passion and get involved with research - UR offers ample opportunity whether you are studying bio or psych.
I swear to god if I don’t receive a decision by tomorrow… Been waiting EIGHT months to hear back! What is their problem?!?
Waitlisted international, 1440 new SAT, 4 UW GPA. I didn’t do any of the recommended items and didn’t interview. Do I really have good chances?
If you go back a couple pages @AbdelHady you’ll see multiple discussions about the waitlist but basically what we’ve determined is that UR rarely takes students from the waitlist and some years they take no one at all. Imo if you haven’t demonstrated strong interest I don’t think they’d take you compared to someone who has shown their love for the school throughout this process but didn’t quite make the cut. Go back and read what was said already and then decide if you want to accept the spot or not but remember that it’s statistically unlikely that anyone will get in from the list. I’m sorry and I hope you have other options I’m sure any school would be lucky to have you!
I got accepted yesterday
Super scored ACT: 33
UGPA: 4.0/4.0
WGPA: 4.88/5
Accepted!!
SAT:1490
4 AP
GPA: 94.00
Lots of ECs
International student from Vietnam
I think the essay is the main reason I got in. The letter said"the counselors recommened you for the admission because of how your mother’s diagnosis has fueled your interest with psychology" very inspiring and personal UoR!!
Does anyone know the student profile for the class of 2021? Like the amount of people who applied, percent accepted, average ACT/SAT, etc.
Accepted
GPA 3.52 UW, 3.79 W
SAT 2260 old, 34 composite ACT
6 AP classes, ECs choir, drama, piano, pretty good amount of volunteer work.
Asian male.
Honestly I was a little bit surprised.
On a side note, the personalized acceptance letter was a really nice touch–they specifically singled out my volunteer work.
@thisgirlcodes No, I haven’t got any other options. Six other colleges waitlisted me and four rejected me so far.
I got accepted through HEOP!!
GPA: 93.14 Weighted
Class Rank: 8
SAT: 1170
AP Scores: 3 in AP English Language, 5 in AP US History
I also interviewed twice–first time was with an alumni & the second time was a skype interview for HEOP.
I highly recommend going on interviews. It show that you’re interested in UR & you also learn a lot from them!
Good luck!
