University of Rochester vs. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

I'm completely unsure to what my major will be, but it may range from anywhere from biology, computer science, or engineering. Basically the ultimate goal is getting into medical school. Also, FA is around the same. Which one has the advantage on major, social life, surrounding area, etc?

From my own research and experience a couple of years ago I would say RPI and obviously since I am still here I am still saying RPI! But it is different for everyone so only you can make that decision.

RPI is much better academics-wise, I'd bet URochester has a better social life and is probably a better deal financially.

I'm guessing financially they will work out to be similar - RPI is better known for good aid than U of R (I believe - although I haven't actually looked that up - seems like U of R is cutting down on merit anyway).

I think it depends on do you want to be in school with techie sorts or pre-med sorts? I picture U of R a more competitive environment. Both campuses have similar problems - nothing immediately around them, but if you get off you can find things to do. I'm not sure if you can transfer into engineering at U of R...Did you apply to engineering?

as a UR student...I would say that yea both are very very similar...except one very important difference: we have more girls (alot more girls) XD
I think our M/F ratio is like...50-50 , and RPI's more like 70-30. (ouch =/)

*Edit: UR M/F: (592-508) RPI M to F: (908-362)
Stats based on Common Data Set Information Provided by Respective College's Departments of Institutional Research

Both UR and RPI are excellent in engineering.
But if I had to say...I would say that UR has the edge in premed (one of the best medical centers in the country) and RPI has the edge in engineering (it's a very technical school).

But the differences mentioned above are very slight. RPI has Troy, NY (not much there) and Rochester has..well, rochester, (not much goin on here either).

They get snow, we get snow. Have you visited each? A visit would probably be very helpful.
