University of San Diego 2023

Thanks for the update. I called this morning as well and they said they can’t promise admission decisions will be made on the portal, but they will be sent via mail by the 5th. This is inconvenient on a number of levels.

Yes website now says 4/5

USD definitely has set low bar throughout the entire process compared to every other school. All other Privates and public’s has been good and consistent, USD has unfortunately just been bad. So sorry for those that are still waiting to hear and really want to go to USD.

So “sent by the 5th” doesn’t mean “received” by the student by the 5th? So it could be several days longer, and hope nothing gets lost or delayed in the mail? Why can’t they just email?

I called today and was also told that all decisions would be done by April 5th and to check the mail. I asked if this meant that the remaining decisions would be waitlists or rejections since we are being advised to check the mail versus the portal. I didn’t get a straight answer. :frowning:

Someone in a different chat said they received a yes in the mail and nothing changed in his portal. Yet again he said he had a hard time navigating the portal. I hope that the mail isn’t just straight rejection/waitlisted. Hopefully we can still get in!

I still have high hopes for all of us and I think we have a good chance still! stay positive

My portal just changed to committee review today!

@ayeeedia im not tryna be negative but if it hasn’t switched to admitted yet, it probably isn’t a good sign

Maybe they are reviewing the applications by which ones were submitted the latest? I applied in October and still haven’t heard.

I applied the night it was due and haven’t heard anything.

My daughter’s portal was changed to ‘committee review’ 2 days ago. Tomorrow is her 18th birthday…wouldn’t it be a lovely birthday gift to be accepted (with merit aid!) on her special day?! I’m wishing that for her. ?

mine is still on ‘ready for review’. I am very anxious and nervous

Even UC Berkeley has released notifications. Who does USD think they are? Harvard? It’s ridiculous and says a lot about how the administration is run with little regard for prospective students. USD Admitted Student events are throughout March and April, and even if DS received admission at this point he would have little time to make an informed decision. When we started this process, he considered this school a “safety” based on the Naviance scattergram. So very strange. Sorry for those who are still waiting and have a high level of interest still. They need to get their act together.

Agreed. Would they have allowed a student to submit an application late? Of course not. They need to hold themselves to the same standards. If they can’t manage that, then at the very least offer students some kind of communication and explanation, and a refund of application fees.

My son, too, has given up on USD as we are certain at his point he has been rejected-- just waiting on the letter. His application is still “Ready for Review.” With 11 AP courses and a 4.4 GPA he thought he had a good chance. Within the past several months he’s heard from the other 7 schools he applied to, all of which received many more (70,000-plus) applications than USD. Having been admitted to some of he top engineering schools, he’s moved on. It’s unfortunate USD’s admitting process can’t keep pace with other universities. It was one of his top choices.

Syracuse and several other schools have not finished their acceptances. I am assuming most will be done today or this weekend especially since most schools state April 1st as their notification date.

@Babs711 Hmm we heard from Syracuse several weeks ago. Yes, April 1 is the official date, but most, even the elite universities notify earlier. USD changed their date on the website to April 5!

My daughter and most of her friends have yet to hear from Syracuse. Only one has been accepted. She has two other schools that have not issued their response - USD being one. Frustrating because it’s her top choice.

My D has heard from every university to which she applied except USD. This includes two other WCC schools that accepted her through early action programs. We were very impressed when we visited the campus back in the fall, good orientation presentation, excellent student guides, and of course a beautiful campus on a warm sunny day. However, as others have mentioned communication from the school during this application process has been sub-par, and if we do not get a decision by April 1 at the latest I think my D will decide to move on to the schools that have really shown us an interest in wanting her to attend.
