University of San Diego 2023

Can someone change my daughter? She is OOS and on the lower end for stats with a 3.55 GPA and 1180 SAT. However she has taken all honors throughout High school and 4 AP’s. She also has done many extra curriclers through high school.

Prep Scholar calculates an 18.4% chance based on stats alone. Of course, as you said there are other factors! Good luck to your daughter! Hopefully, notifications will roll out soon! @jilliansmith46

I feel like its taking so long! :-<

@letsshare I feel you. The process is so long. I understand why and while I do appreciate the time they put in to making their decisions it doesn’t make it any easy.

D loves USD but I don’t think she has the the stats to get enough in merit aid to make it an option. Has been admitted to Gonzaga, Saint Mary’s, University of Portland with very good merit aid. Has also been accepted at Colorado State University (WUE). Still waiting to hear from USD, Santa Clara, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly and SDSU.

GPA 4.0 (UW) 4.6 (W), SAT 1240, (1270 SC); amazing EC’s - athletics, student government, clubs etc.; strong volunteer hours and a part time job.

It’s a reach but praying she gets in and gets some merit aid at USD, she really wants to go to a Catholic University.

Good Luck to all the kids, I’m sure they’re all well deserving. I know in my heart they will all end up where they belong.

@hermom1, her stats seem pretty darn good. But I know what you mean about being unsure about merit aid. We were hoping for merit also, but I was looking at last year’s thread and was amazed at how hight the stats of the kids who got merit are. Every time we go to the USD campus my daughter likes it more and more, so we are hoping she gets admitted. My daughter was interested in a few of the same universities as your daughter. We are still waiting for her first acceptance.
Congrats on your daughter’s acceptances! :slight_smile:

@hermom1 and @letsshare
I think our kids are in the same boat. My D’s stats are not quite as good. I am thinking USD is not too realistic as I don’t know that my daughter will be admitted much less receive sufficient merit aid. She has heard from 8 schools with 6 acceptances and 2 deferrals. 3 of the acceptances are realistic financially. My wife is not loving the cost of the most expensive of the 3 and I think is nervous about my daughter potentially moving to the east coast (we are in Seattle).
USD would be a great fit if the merit was sufficient by some miracle!

@JBSeattle , wow your daughter has a great acceptance record! Congrats!
Keeping my fingers crossed that she gets merit specially if it’s one of her favorites. Don’t blame your wife for being nervous about the potential cross country college attendance. I would be feeling the same.

P.s. you were up early!

Does anyone know how admission releases will happen with USD? It looks like last year some started rolling out this upcoming week.

@letsshare
Yeah, I had trouble sleeping due to an earache and went back to sleep after the post!

@kkmtx, yeah I was reading through last year’s and the 2017 thread. Last year the first admittance post was on the 19th and the year before on the 2nd.

@JBSeattle, hope your ear feels better soon. They can get pretty painful. This may sound crazy but I’ve had success with putting rue leaf in a cotton ball and putting it in my ear. Who knew!

@letsshare
Never heard of rue leaf! I put some wax removal stuff in my ear and flushed with warm water. Feels stuffed but not hurting as much so maybe it worked.

Snowmageddon here in Seattle! Mostly been at home other than a short walk.

I saw one post last year that someone heard on February 13th. Not sure if it was a merit scholarships.

Wow, the 13th huh? Well hopefully we all hear something soon! :slight_smile:

Glad the ear is feeling better. Snow in Seattle -how often does it snow there?

It usually snows once or twice a year but this is way more than normal! The problem is that a lot of ice forms due to vacillations between freezing and non freezing temps, the city is poorly equipped to handle snow and we have lots of hills!

@letsshare
We are overseas in Asia. The admissions rep was here and had interviews for kids that had already applied. My daughter said it went well. She was asked some very specific questions about USD that fortunately she knew - like what is the mission statement. She has kind of moved a bit away from USD being her first choice after touring last summer. She’s worried it won’t be diverse enough. We shall see how it all plays out in the coming weeks. :slight_smile:

@hkamy21 I’m so glad your daughter was prepared and knew the mission statement among other things :slight_smile: . I am sure that helped her.
I can understand what you mean about her being concerned on the lack of diversity. It is not as much as other campuses and we have also considered that. However, I think that if the individuals themselves are open-minded people, that will lead to diversity. I do think that the school will attract certain kind of people though given its background. Also, the city its in is pretty diverse and safe considering its a larger city. Just some things to think about for your daughter :slight_smile:
Did she apply to other schools in California? I’m familiar with quite a few.

I’m curious if others have logged onto the MySanDiegoPortal? On the left side of portal under ‘mysandiego’ it has a category labelled ‘admissions’ (and under it) ‘admitted’. When clicked on ‘admitted’ it says “Congratulations! Now that you’ve been admitted, we’re sure you have many questions about what happens next…” It goes on to congratulate him on his acceptance.

Son has not rec’d an email with admission notification, nor any other indication of acceptance other than this. There is no scholarship info on the portal.

Congrats! My daughter’s still looks the same. I thought they would start rolling admissions today. Looking forward to the day she will hear one way or another.

Also in Seattle and haven’t had mail in several days due to snow. Perhaps that is why portal shows acceptance but he hasn’t rec’d any other indication. Hoping all hear soon. Waiting for results is no fun.

Well congrats @2mrmagoo
We received mail on Saturday but not yesterday nor Thurs-Fri.
