University of San Diego/Merit Aid

Does anyone here know about U of San Diego's merit aid awards? I looked on their website, and it lists some specific scholarships. But no where does it mention merit aid based on applications or grades or other stats. DS applied to other Catholic colleges and they offered merit aid awards. I wondered if U of San Diego does the same.

Thumper, These two sites explain all of the merit scholarships available at USD - no special applications necessary in most cases, all applicants are considered automatically once they've been admitted:

<a href="http://www.sandiego.edu/ugadmiss/scholarship.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.sandiego.edu/ugadmiss/scholarship.html</a></p>

USD is not the most generous with non-need based merit scholarships from what I have heard. The bulk of their merit awards are need-based in one way or another.

However, that said, my kids attend USD High School across the street from USD and we know many kids who have gone to USD. I do know of at least two that have received rather substantial scholarships based solely on merit, not financial need. Both were outstanding students, valedictorians of their classes, with excellent test scores if that helps at all.

(If you have any other questions about USD, let me know)

Thanks Carolyn for that information. It was exactly what I was looking for. DD is very interested in this school. We suspect she will be in the upper end of their applicant pool. While not a val, she will be in the top 10% of her class, with an aggressive courseload of all AP and Honors courses for the last two years. We are hoping that they need an oboe player. She was also interested in the Choral scholarship as she sang in a children's chorus for 8 years, just finishing this year. I would LOVE to hear more about USD. You can email me if you would like. We think we will be going out there in April.

Thumper = Just sent you a long message about USD. Check your email.
