My husband watched it. The only info he got out of it we already knew, which is to wait until mid-March. We can wait, but in the meantime, she’s not really considering it as a viable option, and visiting other admitted student days, so I don’t know what her mindset will be by then. I do hope you’re right, though!
Very interesting insight. My daughter will not do well with the cog in the machine feeling. When we toured the business school at Syracuse, she loved the smaller feel, and noted that the students there “looked normal, like her.” LOL I think she meant that they weren’t wearing suits and all-business! If that’s what she sees at Kelley, she will bail fast!
Same here. D excited to be accepted, but U of SC moved down on D’s list because OOS cost is so high with no merit in initial letter.
Have the orientation signups come out yet? Do we know when that happens? I know you have to pay the enrollment deposit first so I wasn’t sure if that option is open to you once you pay or if it has not been released yet?
IU Kelly is very good at bringing in recruiters for hiring throughout the year. Students in suits there represent students have regular interview opportunities in the building. Students are not dressing up in suits just to go to class. I have heard UVA students dress up for business classes, but that is not a Kelly tradition.
I think orientation dates are released in early April. I remember them discussing it during one of the online presentations.
OOS with in state tuition makes USC a real contender. Blows Penn State away and better than Ohio State. Good to have options.
Thank you for this clarification. When we visit, if she seems intimidated, I’ll let her know this!
How would a student get in state tuition if they are out of state?
We were told in the acceptance letter.
4 years ago (she’s a senior now) my daughter received the $86k (reduction to instate tuition) with acceptance and an additional $500 per year was added in March. She will be graduating in May from Darla Moore with a degree in Finance AND a job.
My daughter is graduating from DMSB in May with a degree in Finance. She also considered Kelley and we were really impressed with the program. I think Kelley definitely has the “brand name” edge with a lot of employers (daughter was flat out told a couple times, ‘we only recruit from Kelley for that program’). It’s clearly very well respected. But she did not love IU when we visited for the Kelley Direct Admit Day.
I was not super impressed with the assistance my daughter got from the DMSB career center - that said, she had great job lined up in November. She absolutely loves UofSC and wouldn’t trade it for the world! She has great friends from all over the country, a sorority she loves, a vibrant social scene and a beautiful DMSB building to study in for four years. With the instate tuition scholarship it ended up about the same price as in-state options despite that additional travel costs.
We re going through the exact same exercise with my high school senior and I wonder if she will feel the same.
I have twins too AND a daughter who is a senior at U of SC - we are OOS and they have the usual EC, significant work experience and community service, blah, blah, blah
Daughter accepted to DMSB with 1440 and a 4.4 GPA
Son deferred from Engineering with a 1540 SAT and 4.0 GPA
There did not seem to be any rhyme or reason between who was accepted or deferred among their friends. It was very confusing.
Does anyone know when decisions will come out for students who were deferred early action? Is it still March? Any possibility of decisions being released earlier?
I know someone who received their acceptance decision in February of last year after being deferred. Hopefully the same will happen this year.
My son was undecided between Business and Engineering going into the college application process and applied to and was accepted to Darla Moore. Can he change to the engineering school before matriculating or does he have to apply to it after matriculation?
Does anyone know the Honors College acceptance rate?Thank you-
According to the University, last year’s incoming freshman class was just over 8,000 (2nd largest ever). The SCHC had 596 new students. On the SCHC Zoom program the other night, they said that the typical incoming Honors group is typically between 575-600. Not sure if that answers your question since these are enrolled numbers but hope it helps.
Did they say how many applied to the Honors College?
