University of South Carolina Early Action for Fall 2022 Admission

Yes, I went there for undergrad so we toured during COVID–the campus was shut down. They are doing a TON of construction right outside the campus. Considering the size of the campus, there isn’t much for the students right there… But with the Metro nearby, DC, Bethesda, Baltimore, Annapolis, etc there is a lot in the vicinity.

My son was waitlisted, 4.2 GPA, 1210 SAT(yes, low, he should not have submitted). There seems to be no rhyme or reason for some of these. He was accepted to much more selective schools while some of his classmates were not with better stats. He is thrilled to be attending his #1 choice with a very strong program, in the top 5 nationally for his major. It could have easily gone another way for him.

My son heard from VT on Friday (accepted) but was waitlisted to SC.

Congrats on your son getting in to VT. My son has been waitlisted at both VT and SC. Not counting on getting in at either at this point.

I can’t imagine how frustrating this must be for you with your obviously incredibly talented son. I think I saw on another thread your son is in at Auburn? Has he had a chance to visit? It’s a great campus and school. We weren’t prepared to like it as much as we did… totally surprised. Maybe check it out if you haven’t yet. Keep us updated!

@Carter6 Yes, he did get accepted at Auburn. He hasn’t had a chance to visit yet but we hope to take him down there sometime in March. He’s also been learning more about it online so hopefully he will start to get excited about that option soon.

@Norm91 I am so sorry you and your son are going through this! With his stats it makes NO sense. Have you printed a pdf of his application and read through it to make sure there are no mistakes that you could contact admissions about? Good luck to both of you!

Complete headscratcher with your son’s stats for both VT and SC. TBH, we visited SC as a throwaway while we were visiting family and DD26 fell in love with the place. Hopefully you can get down to Auburn and your son will have a similar epiphany. Good luck to you both - as we told our kids when they got an acceptance, you are on your way - take advantage of the opportunity.

Sorry for the delayed input, my OOS daughter was deferred during EA and was accepted last week! We are super excited for her!

She has narrowed her choices down to USC- Darla Moore or University of Indiana- Kelley School of Business. Both great options! We are from NY. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

She must have selected Business - Undeclared

I am familiar with both and have a child at Kelley right now who was accepted to both. I think visiting is key as both the business schools and the general campus atmosphere are different. It also depends on where your child may want to live after graduation and what particular major they are interested in. If you are going to DA Days at Kelley that is a great plan.

Ditto. For my D, Kelley came out of the gates strong, with merit $$ and automatic invite to Hutton Honors College, plus opportunity to add more scholarship $ etc. Darla and Fisher put us in the pool of “wait until mid-March”, although I would like to think my D would get at least something (GPA 4.0 plus other goodies). But my D wants to wait it out and see what all of the schools offer before making a decision, even if it means she may slip behind in the housing queue (except for Fisher, which has already put her in the Business Scholars dorm, just down the road from Fisher SOB). In the end, I totally believe that any of these schools are highly respected with employers and will turn our budding young adults into successful business people. So for my D, it will come down to the “feel” of the campus/school and what seems to be the best fit and I’m totally ok with that!

If anyone has any insight as to the Ohio State/Fisher vibe - would love to hear your thoughts!

Good luck!

If accepted off the waitlist how is the student notified? If admissions calls them for example, do they need to make an on-the-spot decision?
