University of South Carolina Early Action for Fall 2022 Admission

I noticed on the threads in the past couple of years that some people got off the waitlist in April. Maybe that will happen this year as well…

We are waiting for VA Tech as well but they also saw record number of applicants. We are in state for Virginia.

I think that a lot of the applicants are applying to the same schools and are in effect competing against each other over and over again. If that is the case it is going to be really interesting to see how the yields pan out. I think a decent number of waitlisted students at all of these schools will ultimately be admitted.

Agree with that! Understanding this is just but a sampling of applicants on CC, it seems there is one group of kids getting the acceptances at all of the schools we have been following. Last I understood, they can only attend but one. I’m sure each is awaiting merit and weighing what is best for them… I get it and would do the same if I found in that fortunate position. Will be interesting to see what happens in late spring.

Hi All, just an FYI. Son accepted from NJ Undeclared. 1190 SAT, 3.7 unweighted, NHS, Lifeguard. Just happy to get in based on all of the commentary here and in other forums. Good luck to everyone else!

Accepted OOS after deferral but for 2nd choice major. Letter said business was full.

We are OOS (NJ) my son is deferred from Ohio State (he was part of the pool of candidates that did not hear back on the EA dates and ended up in the deferral pile). He is accepted into U of SC business school. There does not seem to be a rhyme or reason to this acceptance process but as time goes on, I truly believe they end up where they should be. They all only need 1 acceptance and 1 school.

My DD is also into U of SC and in that dreaded “deferred” pile of missed OSU applications. Our AO said they will not hear until the late March date. Safe to say OSU has fallen to the bottom of DD’s list.

I have the same concerns about next year. My D23 is not nearly the student that my D22 is.

Does anyone know how hard it is to get into the business school as a sophomore if you were not a direct admit as a freshman?

Have you toured U of SC? Is DD strongly considering it? I was THRILLED tonight when my son said if U of SC is everything he’s heard it is, he will not be waiting till 3/25 for OSU…

Yes - we were there briefly during the earlier months of the pandemic so didn’t get a great feel. Going for an admitted students day next month. She’s also in at Tennessee. It’ll likely be one of those two.

Hi! Would you mind sharing the “everything” your son is referring to? My girl got in yesterday and is thrilled but we parents have heard it is a total party school. Parties every day of the week in the dorms. Do you think that is exaggerated? My girl likes to have fun too, but is way more into the academic part of things. Would love to hear anything! TIA

@LMP1 there is an admitted students parents page on another social media platform (not sure if I can say which one). You’ll find out a ton of useful information.

Thank you

I have a daughter and son currently at Univ of SC. I would that it is not a party school. I believe the partying might occur in certain dorms only. The Women’s Quad where most of the girls there are science majors was pretty boring according to my daughter. My son is in the Engineering college and the dorms for these kids are at Bates and South Quad. My son and his roommates tried to have more fun, and they may have succeeded, but the RA’s catch up fast so the kids my party some weekends, but I wouldn’t call this a party school.

I have the same question.

I was not even thinking partying–I was referring to it checking all of his personal boxes. He is looking for a school w lots of spirit, he’s very into sports (majoring in sports management) so the athletics (esp football) is on his radar, he is looking for a campus that has a campus feel but with a town nearby so he doesn’t feel like he’s in the middle of nowhere (he did NOT like College Park- he was like, what did you even do here???). He knows it’s #3 on the list of best freshman experience. He is super excited about the different courses in the business school and within his major… He is not a huge partyer (sp?) but would def like to meet lots of ppl and possibly join a fraternity. And he’s been very impressed with their communication to new students and outreach.

College Park, Maryland? Just curious as we still need to visit UMD.

I did a little research on the USC site. There’s no guarantee. You need a 3.25 GPA first year to qualify, but only if they have spaces. Beyond that, I’m not sure. I do know schools like Indiana or Bucknell. If you are not a direct admit, chances of getting in as a sophomore are slim.
