University of South Carolina Early Action for Fall 2022 Admission

Similar thing happened to us. When there was initially a smaller amount of merit offered (than expected) and no honors college acceptance, it made us put SC aside and focus on others. Last night, my son got Capstone Scholar and more money to now put it in line with some others. May be too late because he is excited about somewhere else now. It seems timing can make a bigger difference than one might expect.

My daughter received it at her personal email, and my husband and I also received it at both of our emails.

did anyone else receive a scholarship a few levels below what they were expecting? I got the Distinction award, but my SAT score and GPA (I donā€™t actually have a GPA because I do the full IB Diploma) are much, much higher than what they say on their websiteā€¦

Yes, for sure. We were grateful but disappointed.

Yes, my S22 received far less in merit $ than the website suggested. Heā€™s an IB diploma candidate with three Bs (all in Spanish) on his 9-11 transcript, and from what we learned on our tour last fall that UofSC doesnā€™t value IB very much. His offer of scholarship affirmed the information we received. Moving onā€¦ love those who love you back!

Yes, we were one level below than we expected

@randomapplicant26 we are pleased with the scholarship money offered to my son, but he received one level below what his stats suggest. My older son applied three years ago and was offered two levels below what we expected, so I was definitely prepared.

Congratulations to all and hopefully this process helps our kids end up at a school where they will thrive. My older son thought he wanted one school, but ended up elsewhere and wouldnā€™t change it for anything. Things happen for a reason, even if we donā€™t always see it.

Enjoy the touring! Fortunately, we are done with that part. DD received Honors + Merit from Auburn but Capstone + higher Merit from UofSC. UofSC is cheapest but final 2022-2023 costs have not been published yet. Expecting a 4% increase for OOS from both Auburn and UofSC.

I think our daughters applied to the same list of schools!

Yes! Unfortunately, her #1 is NOT our cheapest option but itā€™s in our agreed to budget. We feel fortunate she has great options.

Sameā€¦we have a solid Top 3ā€¦all are in budgetā€¦now we see if she chases merit, ranking or gut feeling!

My D22 has plans to decline her WL, she was accepted to her 1 of her top 3.

Anyone have experience getting any merit if selected from the waitlist? Just wondering if we should put U of SC in our rear view already since my daughter is waitlisted and the OOS price tag is beyond our means. Thank you.

My son was also waitlisted. We live in the northeast and he just got accepted to Bentley University near Boston - itā€™s $58,000 plus $18,000 room and board - seriously, nuts! Even with no merit (which we hear they donā€™t give merit if youā€™re waitlisted???) SC would still be much cheaper for us. Iā€™m not sure what to doā€¦ we would have to put down $1,000 on May 1st if he chooses Bentley. Iā€™m so torn.

@overstressedMom Wow that is a lot of money! Maybe just wait until the last day possible to pay the money and hope there is movement from the waitlist. Good luck!!

Yes we are north of Boston. I got my MBA from Bentley back in the day. $1000 seems like the largest deposit Iā€™ve heard! I guess Iā€™m thankful that my daughter did not choose to apply to any schools north of Virginia because the northeast schools all seem to be 70k+!! She is my oldest so I have no experience with a waitlist but Iā€™m thinking all the merit will have been already given to accepted students.

Yep, itā€™s $500 deposit and $500 for room and board deposit, both due on 5/1. UGH!

Hello. Can anyone comment on UofSC partying culture? Daughter accepted to UofSC Real Estate. She likes to have some fun but is serious about doing well and worried she will have fomo if she doesnā€™t go out all the time. She is considering Baylor as well for business but is also worried about the religious culture there, and not being able to find her people. Also heard the Darla Moore Business schoolā€™s main funding from Darla Moore herself got pulled? Concerned about how that affects the bisiness college? She got rejected after being waitlisted at Auburn which we all felt was a perfect fit for herā€¦so not sure how to jump. TIA
