Although we don't get to start during the Fall along with most people, we are technically still Trojans! Just about 5 months delayed :D

So for all you Spring admits, are you going to choose to attend USC?
What are your thoughts about being a Spring admit?

Oh and just on a short note: as much as it probably sucks to be a Spring admit, there are hundreds/thousands who wish they were in YOUR position ;)

"I thought you were going to UCLA? Changed your mind, eh?"

I'm still deciding. I have an entire month, so bleh :p
It's really a tough choice though. Honestly if I was admitted for Fall in USC I would've gone with it automatically. But ugh...Spring...

gbv13: My son received spring admission today, and the letter said financial aid info would be forthcoming. One thing we need to check on is whether he would still be able to get the National Merit scholarship.

So let's talk about the pro's and con's. I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with the following:

One concern we have is the lack of guaranteed housing. Another is the missed opportunity to bond with ones freshman class, but maybe that's not so bad as it seems.

Another is that he would really like to be part of Thematic Options, and we don't know if that's possible if you start in January.

S will have about 24 units of AP credit, as best we can tell. Does USC allow a spring admit to catch up and graduate with his class if he has a bunch of AP credits, or is there an 8-semesters-in-residence rule?

I need to make a list of things I need to ask USC admissions about this spring enrollment process, but would appreciate any insights from those who have already had that conversion, or have actually started USC in spring. Are there any negatives I've missed from my list?

While housing is not guaranteed they always house the freshmen. Worst case senario is they house frosh with upperclassmen in university owned off campus apartments. One year, it was so bad, they took another floor at the Radisson, so while they say it isn't guaranteed it really is.

I know a lot of kids took a full semseter at CC so they are able to graduate in 4 years (3.5 of which are at 'SC).

yea i wanted to know if ap credit would transfer instead of having to take classes at cc. i'd rather volunteer abroad or something. that may sound bad but yea

If your kids are interested in USC they will not regret joining their class in the spring should they decide to do so. Oldest d is a senior and has many friends that she met her freshman year that were spring admits. The transition from what I understand wasn't difficult and the kids joined right in once they arrived at USC, and were accepted by all who had been there since fall. USC is SUCH an awesome school and has been the best experience ever for our daughter! Feel free to pm me if you have ANY questions that I might answer to help in making a decision.

Lastly, for all of you trying to decide between USC and UCLA, remember you are a Bruin for four years, but are A TROJAN FOR LIFE!!

Don't know anything about the Nat'l Merit Scholarship info., but I do know that you do not have to complete 8 semesters at the school to graduate. In other words, if you come in with college credits, AP credits, etc. they are factored in towards your credits needed for graduation. Many kids start out with sophomore status as they begin their fall semester since they bring many AP, IB, or college credits with them.

If I remember correctly, a 5 may get you out of a specific GE, where a 4 would get you units. I was able to get out of a humanities course and got a bunch of credit for my other APs. The good part about the extra units is it gets you an early registration time.

Well I'm actually seriously considering it if I can afford it (waiting for Financial Aid). I suggest you guys get a facebook and talk to the people on the USC Class of 2010 Spring Admit group. They can tell you about their experience there. For the most part, everyone I've talked to seems to love it, no regrets whatsoever. I can't believe I'm even thinking about considering USC Spring 2009 over UCLA Fall 2008 :p Everybody here is calling me crazy and stupid.
