Yes
@tennisgirl00 thanks - we are waiting on Moody Honors too.
Three kids from local district were accepted to UT’s CS + McCombs (Business Honors) but not interested in accepting. One has Rice ED, other SCEA from Stanford, third didn’t apply early but poised to have at least few offers from top 25 colleges.
If you are on waiting list, hang in there, once RD results are out, many would leave their UT spots and go for top schools.
@Meadow530 Yes the merit comes through Honors and the requirement to keep it is holding a GPA 3.5 each semester. As a continuing student you become eligible for departmental awards (yearly or only 1 semester) for those who hold high GPAs. You start to realize how many talented students there are when you see the Honors Day List (it is online) where they get a cord and certificate for high GPA. Cords are saved to be worn at graduation. There are many gifted students at UT.
@Riversider, I don’t think people should assume anything like that because all schools overenroll according to their typical yield rates. Students declining is built in already to the number of acceptances they send out.
And anyone who already got in ED elsewhere was supposed to pull their other apps as soon as they were notified.
Do we expect any wave tonight - I couldn’t resist asking …
Oof- was going to UTSA CAP, got a timeout error, and it was full by 6:01. Is it worth it to email UT CAP admissions and risk sounding like a whiner or just suck it up and go somewhere else? My options right now are ACC, beg UT admit staff, or U of H.
@angelyh1 Hi! If you are really interested in CAP I’ve heard UTA is a really good option that fills up quite fast, so I would act quick if you are considering that. I feel like there is no harm in emailing CAP admissions if it did fill up in one minute. Best of luck!
DD accepted the UT CAP at UTSA this evening. Hook’em RoadRunners. Still the best option available at this time versus all the usual tri state, Big schools.
@angelyh1 Are you sure it was full? Did you receive a message saying that? I would try again if you didn’t receive a message saying they were full.
@UTWannabe23 Do you have a child that will be a freshman this fall?
@collegerigged Yes and one that will be a Junior this fall …
@collegerigged Why do you ask?
@grlgotexas "UT is a top school, and in engineering, top 10 (with some of the engineering in the number 1 spot). "
Really… which Texas engineering majors are ranked number 1?
@angelyh1 Sorry that you didn’t get through. I too thought I had timed out and was freaking out. I had refreshed constantly right up to 6:00PM when the new CAP screen appeared. I quickly chose UTSA and hit the 'I have read all…" box before finding and clicking the submit button. I don’t think I loitered on that page for more than 8-10 Seconds! The screen went blank except for the processor spinning wheel. It kept spinning for 30-40 maybe 60 seconds, all the time I’m thinking maybe I needed to open a new screen and try again but… finally the screen refreshed with the Application Approval note. I had read/heard going into it last night, from previous years, that we might only get a few minutes. I guess it’s now down to less than 1 minute.
@angelyh1 To your situation, I would think U of H would be your best bet. Since you’re major is Business, UT CAP only offers Liberal Arts Major, less ECON too, so you would most likely have to change majors. Transferring from ACC may be difficult for many reasons, the least of which so much competition and the high GPA bar set. UTSA has a College of Business, if that location works better for you than UoH. The Application Deadline for Fall 19 is this June, so you still have time to apply. Good luck.

@Greymeer
All the auto-admit posters that argue UT is reviewing non auto admit holistically just seem to be defending the very flawed auto admit process. The “fishy” admits are happening nationwide with large public universities. Over qualified 7% - 20% (with more than just high GPA and great test scores),in state students are being rejected for less qualified out of state students consistently. The UF board is blowing up with the same complaints after yesterdays decision release.
@grlgotexas you said ‘some’. So I figured that you had a list.
“petroleum engineering #1”… well, that’s 1 out of 13… Texas A&M is ranked 2 for that.
Nationally, only a handful of schools have that major.
You are right. They do know their yield so probably over enroll.
