University of Texas at San Antonio ????

I wanted to know if anyone has attend/attended this school because im interested but im a out of state resident from Virginia and college is to much money to waste. Also how diverse is this school im African American

Don’t attend but know a little bit.

UTSA is growing like crazy. It used to be a small, commuter school but now is maybe 10,000 students and has dorms and a thriving honors program. There is a well regarded BS/MD program. It even has a football team.

Diverse? Hmm. My guess is it is predominately Hispanic, the rest white and Asian, not too many black people. Most students are from San Antonio.

Do you know about the Common Data Set? Google that plus UTSA and you will see the school’s size and make up in detail.

If you’re coming all the way from Virginia to go to UT, seems like you’d want to go to the main campus in Austin. I’m sure there are plenty of schools in Virginia on par with UTSA.

I took my son on a vist to UTSA this past weekend and enjoyed the campus. Sadly school was out for the holidays so so the campus was pretty sparse. The school was built in 1969 so it is pretty modern by college standards. We are also Afro American and know a few friends who attend school their. There is enough diversity to feel very comfortable at UTSA. We will be taking another vist when class is in session. My only concern is it still had that commuter school feel to it and wonder what the campus is like on the weekends.

Are you able to pay out of state tuition for UTSA?

@goingnutsmom Yes

Hey I’m actually a transfer student from Illinois, so I can definitely help you out, ahha.
Okay well first, UTSA is an EXTREMELY diverse school. I am white and I am a definite minority. We have tons of middle easterners, asians, indians, and an extremely diverse black community. My black friends are from either Houston or Nigeria—which seems to actually pretty normal here. It’s going to be very different from Virginia. There’s lots of state pride, and the way that people do things down here is a little different. You will definitely enjoy it if you are looking for a large group of people to choose from and hang out with. The school is expanding like crazy–I’m an officer for the lacrosse team, and it’s one of many sports that are growing here at the school.
Out of state tuition isn’t really that expensive, and on-campus living is nice. You can have a dorm room where you share a common living space and bathroom but have your own room. There is only one building (it’s optional), where you can get the “traditional” dorm experience. You can also choose to have just a room and share a bathroom (one building, called San Saba). Everything is pretty new here. Don’t forget, it is a HUUUUGE school.
And don’t listen to the people poo-pooing UTSA over UT. I looked at UT Austin and actually liked UTSA better.
Unfortunately, I am transferring, but I hope I helped!
