University of Texas--Austin Admissions

@Mayosauce UT, as far as I can tell, does not have a coordinated single release date across all schools. Thus the generic post that covers all colleges must use the last possible date.

Ahh alright, thanks

There isn’t a specific formula for which decisions are going out—it depends on a variety of factors. All will be out by 3/1. From UT admissions twitter page

If you didn’t apply by October 15th, does that significantly lower your chances?

This is going to be a long month

anyone still waiting to hear from planII?

@shb5120‌ i don’t think it matters

@VLB080 yes, a lot of people are still waiting to hear back from Plan II

What is the significance of october 15th? @shb5120‌

Are admission decisions generally released only on Fridays?

@witxbound yes, I think it has to do with the admissions office hours. They usually close on Friday at 5 and don’t come back until Monday. The friday decisions apparently prevent them from being inundated with calls.

My son applied months ago - I believe early October - we sent in the housing deposit immediately. If and when he ever hears back that he is admitted, will there still be housing available? This is my second time through the college application process and I have to say that UT has the most convoluted admissions process that either of my children applied to.

My S applied on August 8th, and we’ve heard nothing. His HS doesn’t rank, so I guess that put him in the “holistic review” category automatically. My understanding of the housing deposit (which we also did immediately) is that the applicant is in line in the order the deposits were made – seems like actual housing choices/assignments aren’t made until after the acceptance deadline (May 1st, I assume?).

@loganator - I hope that is correct. I keep seeing kids on twitter talking about their dorm choices - got me worried.

@scout07 All of the McCombs students haven’t heard. Like mentioned earlier in the thread, admissions waves go by the strength of the applicants. I recieved my acceptance with a major in Finance Dec 18 or 19 (can’t remember the exact day, sorry) but I also applied for the BHP, which required an interview held in January. I have a feeling that had something to do with how early I was answered. My application was pretty strong, plus they need to get their honors decisions out by March just like their regular decisions. To whoever said the deadline for the BHP was earlier, my Mystatus said the deadline was Dec 1st and I had my interview a few weeks ago. I haven’t heard back. I assumed you had to be accepted into McCombs to even be considered.

I know schools are different, but most of my friends’ schools have been sending scholarships in the acceptance letter. Some people say UT waits, some people say they got money in their letter. Since I’m being considered for the BHP, will I receive scholarship information after I hear from the honors program? Or is it only in the general acceptance and if I didn’t see anything then I just haven’t gotten any money?

@hnef27 do you mind sharing your stats?

@MOMOF5TX of course, no problem

Honors: history & English all throughout high school, precalculus honors

To be totally honest, I don’t remember my specific essay topics but I think they were good. English has always been a strong suit. If anyone remembers the choices, can you post them please?

I was accepted into McCombs for Finance. My application, and especially my essays, reflect my background in and passion for business. I’ve dedicated a lot to it, which I think is what stood out.

I am from Long Island, New York, by the way.

@need2learn – I hope so, too…I seem to recall hearing that at the two admissions presentations we attended, one at college night at my S’s HS and one at a UT visit day. My S is already accepted at A&M and submitted the housing deposit immediately upon acceptance way back in mid-September as suggested for “priority housing”…there has been no indication that dorm preferences can be submitted yet, though. I think both schools do that over the summer. Oh, further support is that not all of the honors admissions have been sent yet (as far as we can tell, right?) – that affects dorm selection as well, since there is honors housing.

@hnef27‌ Damn, those are some crazy internships…Congrats on getting accepted! I’m really jealous haha.
