University of Texas--Austin Admissions

@Chamomile7, Seriously, I started getting doubts about the admission process at UT Austin as well as TAMU;

Disappointed that they holding rejections. Those students need to plan and continue on with other placement testing, scholarships, and FAFSA stuff.

There was a bomb threat on campus this morning. They closed classes this morning and now have reopened. I hope the admissions people did not go home for the day.

Do you think it’s likely some people will have to wait till march 1st for decisions?

@SammySosa‌ , He was given all of the CAP options that were there last year which were: UT San Antonio, UT Permian Basin, UT Arlington, UT El Paso, UT Brownsville, UT Pan America, UT Rio Grande Valley, UT Tyler. (UT Dallas only participated for about 2 years. Also, San Antonio and Arlington did have SAT/ACT score break offs where they only took higher scoring applicants if I remember correctly.) He chose Arlington.

@TSip2000‌ how is he liking UT Arlington if you don’t mind me asking

@kcsprop1‌ I would hope that you were more concerned with the safety of those on campus than the working status of the Admissions Office, haha!
All jokes aside, I can’t help checking myStatus every day and hoping to see a change, for better or for worse. Darn Cockrell and their super long decision-making process…

for those who’ve gotten decisions, what did your mystatus page look like? was anything different?

Interesting that we received info from the following schools in the 2-4 weeks. UT Permian Basin, UT Arlington, UT El Paso, UT Rio Grande Valley, UT Tyler. I hope that it’s just random, versus being the possibly CAPPED.

Have y’all heard from anyone not in the top 7% got admitted? I’m currently sitting in that boat and am very nervous…

@yayme12345‌ yeah my friend was top 20% and SAT 2290, got into business in december

@nat97xo It says “Congratulations! You’ve been admitted to the University of Texas…” with a star next to it and there are a few more options in the “to do” section. Otherwise it looks the same

A friend of mine was admitted to fine arts last week. Top 15% and 23 ACT.

@yayme12345‌ yes, i was admitted ~2 weeks ago for fine arts (design), top ~40%.

@machovich He is liking it alright, but he said it does feel like it is a commuter campus. But the CAP year does go quickly. He enjoys the dorm he is in,and the friends he has met on that floor–they are all pretty close. They have “oozeball” (mud volleyball?) and some things like that which make it fun. UT Arlington is hard. I think some other campus choices might be “easier” but it could be the classes he is taking. An issue with the CAP is that with dual credit, he graduated HS with 28 college hours. So the list of approved CAP classes that you must take (30 hours) – he had taken most of them (history, government. english, economics, etc.) So he is now taking all fairly hard classes (chemistry, physics, calculus, etc) without any buffer courses to take to balance the semester. So it’s not a cakewalk. Did that answer your question? I know he would prefer to be at Austin, but he has made good friends there. It is what it is.

@Chamomile7 Seriously, you know the latest date is March 1st. This is one of the earliest scheduled admission decision dates, show a little patience.

Thanks for the advice, but no thanks. There is no reason why UT should release decisions gradually instead of all at once on March 1. It creates unnecessary anxiety for the thousands of students waiting. And no, the date isn’t especially early, considering that the application deadline was Dec. 1.

Is moody hard to get in to?

Is admissions so different from in the past? I had a kid get in a few years ago and I remember the timing being like this. Back then I didn’t know what to expect, however, so I just rolled with it.

Yeah chamomile7 that wouldn’t be fair at all to the really stellar students who are going to get admitted anyway. I think that would be way worse than withholding all the rejections until the end. Would you rather get denied now or possibly capped in the end once they figure how much room there is? I understand the anxiety for those waiting, but what you’re wanting is everyone to be equally anxious about their chances, when everyone is not equally matched. Some students deserve to know they’re getting early if it’s obvious they’re one of the best.

Also, that would mean admissions officers do nothing, nothing, nothing until the last minute and then scramble to send out 15,000 admissions and field calls from everyone all at once. Just not smart when the sole purpose is for your child to be less concerned that someone else got in before they did.
