The play button is symbolic. It represents that they are “playing” with us hehe
Hope they insert a fast-forward button next
This is probably the most active forum for today. No fallacy there. I don’t think even twitter has so much buzz about UT admissions.
Son applied to UT in December and we are painfully waiting. But I check the status lot more than he does. As much he wants the admissions, I want to get this over with.

Bealonghorn tweeted " simply a design update" on the change to the button about an hour ago. Sigh.
UT is about to determine my future for the next four years. Can they just freaking do it already?!
@zubear lol i created this forum back in december hoping to get info on the admissions, its pretty good now
On Chrome – a green check. On Internet Explorer - a play button. The mystery continues …
Okay you guys, as we’re getting down to the wire, I want to emphasize that although this is an absolutely terrifying time, we are going to survive. UT is my #1 choice and I will be devastated if I don’t get in, but you know what, this isn’t the end of the world. In the long run, we’re all going to be happy wherever we go!
This is probably a stupid question but people have gotten rejected right? Or are they doing most of their rejections by not replying until the very end?
omg i have a grey play button. oMG. please mean something!!!
@vs1997. Check the number of views on this thread. If this is youtube, you are going to be so rich !!
My play button doesn’t work. I used chrome on my phone and saw the play button. I clicked it but nothing happened. I’m assuming the Grey button means nothing
@magicalpony Primarily, because I am quite certain you are. I thought, while on the phone with (you?) that perhaps (you?) were referring to my sardonic post about “The Thursday Night Claim” when (you?) chuckled about the posts on College Confidential.
Either:
A) You ARE the person I spoke to and you were referring to my post when you laughed;
B*) You ARE the person I spoke to and you were NOT referring to my post, (in which case I would ask, what is so funny about these poor folks’ anxiety?); OR
C) You are NOT the person I spoke to and this post is rendered irrelevant.
[On a more serious note, if (you?) are the person to whom I spoke, I had a more pertinent questing in regards to my honors application: I noticed the honors program associated with my first choice major has vanished from my honors tab. Yet, the second choice program to which I applied (Honors Engineering) remains. Is this a server error in which only one of my programs is displayed, or does it indicate SOME decision has been made in respect to my honors admission?]
Cheers! (Whoever you may be…)
I did not intend to make a B) face. that was supposed to be “B*)”
They updated the button. If you login using a browser which you haven’t used for a while, it will show the new button. If you keep using the browser you were trying to use recently, the cache will keep the old button there. Try to clear your cache and then view your status, you shall see the new button. My guess.
For those admitted already. Does your screen show a green check mark or does it show a play button? If a play button shows up, does it do anything.
@magicalpony I recant the prior statements. I now see an earlier post in which you mentioned your SAT scores. Unless you are an admissions counselor posing as a student, I don’t see why you would do such a thing. Anything is possible, but only a few things are likely/probabilistic. Instead, I might ask, “What is your intended major,” instead of information about my applications. HA! Good luck in your admissions process.
To be specific to clear your chrome cache, click the 3 little horizontal bars on the top right and then history and clear history. You may only want to clear the images since you might want to keep your other browsing history. Close chrome and restart it, you will see the new image.
About 20 minutes ago…it was the green check. Just rechecked the green check and now have the play button. Design change implemented!
Thank you to this site and all contributors for the info. The most useful bit was this:
https://www.utsystem.edu/sites/utsfiles/documents/institutions/best-practice-admissions-processes/ut-system-admissions-best-practices-2014-07.pdf. The paper contains the sobering formula that is really the only way to handle the volume of applications received by UT.
My daughter was auto admitted to UT and accepted to her major back in December. She has a play button on MyStatus in Explorer, Google Chrome, and my phone.
