University of Texas--Austin Admissions

My D was rejected, 32 ACT (33 superscore), 3.83 UW, 4.69 W, 10 APs thru senior year, OOS. It wasn’t the top choice, more of a backup but surprised at the rejection. Applied for CS and Biomed. This was her first rejection, there was one deferral and one accepted to alternate major…

@Ebbetwd‌ Same here. Offered waitlist/PACE/CAP and wanting to attend McCombs. I spoke with the local admissions office today and this is the info I gleaned. The waitlist seems like a joke unfortunately, a very small number of students get in each year. PACE students are offered just about all the same privileges as regular UT students (although some Greek organizations won’t accept you if you are PACE, if that concerns you). Classes at ACC will undoubtedly be easier and cheaper than at UT. Apparently PACE students even live on campus at UT, so the social aspect is also somewhat equal. To quote the admissions counselor I spoke to today, people won’t know you’re a PACE student unless you tell them, that’s how similar PACE and regular UT students are.

Daughter accepted to CNS Biochem! OOS; UW 3.75, W 4.50 with steep upward trend (too much sports freshman year); ACT 30; top notch ECs and community service; great essays.

I got in to CS!!! My stats are on my threads. Quick overview: 32 ACT 35M 31 CE 33 R 26 S(34 superscore). Top 5% in state. Some CS related extra cs.

@chonladoo I believe international get special consideration in terms of SAT scores because you know SAT is biased when it comes to english! You should not expect me to perform like a native speaker in the writing and reading parts!

@dana267 what do you mean housing tap?

Just curious as to how many got in to their second choice major and whether you were non-auto admit, OOS or auto-admit.

For everyone with questions about PACE (especially @Ebbetwd and @Mayosauce), I recommend that you check out post #960 from @TSip2000. Lots of good info about how the PACE program works. TSip2000 has a student in the CAP program now so it’s relevant and timely info. Good luck!

I can say with a great deal of certainty that no one was seriously reviewed for their 2nd choice major because UT is moving away from admitting people to anything besides their first choice. The exception seems to be Engineering, who is pretty chill about changing majors within the college. However, I would be shocked if anyone who put UGS or COLA undeclared as their 2nd choice were accepted into those programs. Going forward, UGS only wants students who are truly undecided and put them as their first choice. Can’t reveal my source, but trust that UT doesn’t want students coming on a hope they’ll get into McCombs, CS, etc.

@Longhorns061012‌ I’m inclined to agree with this. McCombs was my first choice and UGS was my second, I got waitlisted/CAPed/PACEd.

@DogShelter, congrats!!

Thanks @FloMoMom

Yeah it’s becoming more common knowledge around campus, but it can be confusing for some. UGS will have a smaller class this year for sure. Unfortunately putting it as your backup signals exactly that - its your backup. It’s all part of their mission to improve 4 year graduation, and students accepted to their 2nd major historically are set up for failure. It sucks for those who are genuinely interested and would enjoy their 2nd choice major too, but UGS is now just for those students who are truly undecided on their degree/major.

UT doesn’t consider your GPA or superscore test results when making admissions decisions.

I emailed my admissions counselor and she said " Thank you for your email!

The Office of Admissions at UT Austin is delivering all remaining decisions to 2015 summer/fall freshman applicants today.

Let me know if you have any questions!"

Soooo I don’t know what that means…

I got accepted to BME today!!!

Okay guys I applied to UT back in September, I’m a Texas resident, and I checked my admission status once today and I checked again about an hour later, and I was offered the CAP program. I know for some this would devastating, but for me I’m thrilled I thought I was going to straight up get denied because my test scores were bad, and the only thing I had going for me was my GPA, rank, and extra curriculars (I also had recommendations from UT alumni) moral of this story is check your admission status you never know. Clearly some sort of wave had to happen today.

@balletgal19‌ Does this mean that those of us who haven’t received a decision can expect to be denied?

Girlfromworld1 it could be they’re deciding between cap/pace or denial

got into my 2nd choice major which was civil e but my first was chem e. UT is my top school but not sure if I should just transfer into my first choice or just go to a&m where I was accepted in my major. :\
