I will be an auto admit to the University top 8%. I’ve never made a B, my HS GPA 99.4 ACT comp 29 all scores were 29 or 30. Would like chemical or mechanical engineering. Thanks in advance.
Did they lower the bar? I know their auto admission cutoff was at the top 7% at least in last couple years.
OP is correct that this coming application season cutoff is top 8%. @beahorn, you will get better (and possibly harsher) information in either the Texas Colleges forum or the University of Texas at Austin forum.
You will be auto admitted, but if those two engineering majors are your two listed choices and you don’t get into either, you will be given an opportunity to choose a major from a list of majors that don’t fill.
The info you provided is not enough for anyone here to chance you. Engineering admissions is looking for really strong math scores and the highest math classes you can take ( AP Calc AB or BC or an IB Program). They like to see Engineering-related ECs.
ACT in a 32+ range will strengthen your chances. The math courses at UT are really hard. They look for engineering students that have strong math and physics foundation. If you are female, that may help. If you are a URM or from a high school that is not well represented at the University, that may help as well.
By lowering the threshold, the admission of other students would be much harder.
