What are your thoughts about the University of the Pacific School of Engineering. Can anyone share their thoughts about this college.

It’s a gorgeous little gem reminiscent of a school in New England. Red brick buildings surrounded by trees and green lawns. Unfortunately, it’s smack dab in the middle of Stockton. They have some good academic programs, as well as schools for pharmacy and dentistry. My daughter was accepted with a $10,000 Regent’s Scholarship, however was accepted to schools she liked better. UOP is not cheap, either.

Ditto to everything 2Leashes said. My son was accepted last year. One thing that appealed to him was the senior-year internship which seemed like a great way to get work experience. He was accepted to his first-choice school and so declined UoP.

Love UOP! The college part at the beginning of *Raiders of the Lost Arc *was filmed there.

I just spent 2 days on the campus in their sports medicine department. Had never seen the campus before, even though I was a S.F. Bay Area resident for many years. I too was impressed by the campus beauty. You don’t hear too much about their Engineering department. I would definitely go visit the school though and see for yourself. I have several friends who graduated from UOP and they all had great experiences there. Another school that I would look at if you have not already, in the south county of the S.F. Bay Area about 2 hours driving distance from Stockton), is Santa Clara University. Here you have wonderful intern opportunities as an Engineering student.

Bookmarked

My daughter had been accepted to Exercise Science with a concentration on Sports Medicine (with intention of going to Occupational Therapy grad school.)

I have a good friend who graduated from UOP back in '76 and has been a pharmacist ever since. Another local gal got a full-ride scholarshp to play volleyball there back in the '90s. She’s a teacher. Both of them enjoyed the school. I also know a family who can boast several members who are UOP alumni, going way back. They can’t say enough good things about the school.

I honestly wouldn’t mind taking their brick buildings and landscaping and dropping it down in San Luis Obispo where my daughter will be going. University of the Pacific is in such a lovely setting. My husband was pleasantly surprised when he saw it. Turns out his uncle went there in the '40s and was married in their chapel several years ago.

Another thing—since it’s on the smaller side, we felt like the Admissions office was very personable when we were there visiting. The gal at the front desk was friendly and chatty. It never felt like a large institution.

I’m happy with my daughter’s decision, nonetheless. Easier on the pocketbook, too. ;)
