That’s strange. With the deadline tonight, I would be tempted to call. Please let us know that it works out for you.
did you fill out the roommate group? The office is closed now
My S isn’t ready for the roommate group part yet. There was a payment button after the LLC part.
It just goes to thanking us for submitting our answers and we have completed the LLC portion of the application. No where to pay
@swimwiththefish - sorry you had trouble with the site - this experience does test one’s nerves for sure! FWIW, our son did not fill out a roommate group either - that seems like it is for kids that already know they want to room with each other.
did you make a payment on the payment page? We also had an application fee waiver, do you think it applied to housing? I so wish I worked on this earlier, but I was hoping to hear about merit, and I had to wait for DD to get home this evening.
I was waiting to hear on merit too. So disappointing that they didn’t tell us earlier. Hopefully someone will pop up tonight with an answer for you, but if not a call to the school in the morning seems reasonable. You can’t meet the deadline if there is no payment button.
Good luck!
I am emailing them tonight, so I at least have a time stamp.
We did have to pay for the LLC application ($130)
We did not seem to have to pay for normal housing in any way. I heard this was a $200 refundable, but never saw any charge for it. We did get the thank you letter, and I emailed housing and they confirmed things were all set.
@TXParent500 and @loveorangecats Thank you very much for your help last night. Utah promptly got back to us this morning. We had an application fee waiver, which waived our housing application fee too. DD is all set.
That’s great news! Thank you for the update
You pay the $200 refundable deposit when you select your room (probably in the last week of March for LLCs). It is refundable up to May 1 and credited to the fall housing bill.
I just spoke to someone in financial aid and she informed me that the WUE scholarships are not a sure thing, even when from a participating state and GPA qualifies. She said it’s competitive, treated like a merit scholarship and they run out of them. This was a surprise to me! I thought if we were from a qualifying state with a qualifying gpa we would pay WUE tuition. Utah was a top option because WUE makes it affordable for us! She also said that if someone is awarded WUE they won’t get other merit money. You may already know all of this, but I was surprised and disappointed to here this info. Oh and she said they would release the info at the end of this month. I’m going to email the scholarship office and see if I can get any other info. I’ll share if they say anything different.
Thank you for sharing. It sounds as if they have moved their merit notification date from March 1st to mid March to now end of March. This is really frustrating.
As far as the WUE goes, I have an email dated March 1 from the Northern California Admissions Rep that states that as long as an applicant has a 3.0 they should expect the receive the WUE. I am hoping that this is a miscommunication within their financial aid department?
I emailed with the Southern CA admissions rep and he was able to tell me that my daughter is “slated” to receive the WUE scholarship when decisions are released this month. Might be worth contacting your admissions rep to ask specifically about your child.
I wouldn’t make that assumption quite yet. My recollection is that in past years, WUE was decided after the rest of the merit, because some people wanted the option to switch from one year merit to WUE, if they thought their kids wouldn’t want to stay for the summer to get residency.
Hoping this isn’t the case. They are going to be losing potential candidates if they wait that long as some kids will start to crystalize their choices mentally.
We’re still trying to figure out if we can fly out across the country to visit, which entirely depends on merit amount. Will be running out of time soon.
This is different than what she told us in Monday’s zoom meeting “Northern California Admitted Student Program with Jasmine Bryan”.
Follow up- I emailed with our regional recruiter and he said they are a week or so away from aid notifications. So it sounds like we’ll have more info before the end of the month.
This question is for other OOS families: I researched stats on employment post graduation for computer science majors at Univ of Utah. The most recent data available said 72% of students who go into full time employment after graduation (as opposed to grad school) stay in Utah. Are your kids planning to relocate permanently to Utah after graduation? Does anyone know how difficult it is to get a job in another state if they don’t decide to stay?
