Does anyone go to this school for the acting program? If so can you tell me about it? I am very interested in it. It looks like it's in a good location and has alot to offer.

We spoke to two professors from the program at Unified Auditions a couple years ago. I liked both people very much--one was an English woman who was delightful. A girl from my D's class went there for acting, but decided to change to business during her first year. She loves the school though and stayed there after her first year to work for the summer with the orientation program.

We visited their program during spring break. Stayed two days, watched a play, sat in on about four hours of ATP classes. The reason we went is that it frequently showed up on various lists on CC of being a selective program with good reputation and it happened to be geographically close to us (relatively speaking)

My only previous experience in SLC was layovers at the airport. The first thing you notice about SLC is how beautiful it is both the town and the surrounding area. It is a very clean city and as you know about 75% of the residents are Mormon. To me there are good aspects and bad to that fact but thats off topic. Winters are cold!

The campus is very nice. A good mixture of architecturally attractive older buildings and newer as well. Much of the 2002 winter Olympics were held on campus so the school was probably the biggest beneficiary of that event in the region. The stadium is nicer than most professional sports stadiums and they newly built Olympic Village is now the schools dorms and they are very, very, nice. It is largely a commuter school (as opposed to residential) and I did not care for that fact. There is a thriving arts community both on and off campus. The professional theater company that is on campus is Pioneer.

They have a beautiful facility and from what we have been told do some great things.

The play we saw did not knock our socks off but it was not bad either. We found the faculty and staff to be very friendly, and genuinely seemed to care about the students and program a great deal. The camaraderie and air of the students interacting with themselves was very positive, very supportive. We got a tour of the department by the chair and he was very candid as to the good, the bad and the ugly. The instructor who was teaching the classes we sat in on is AMAZING. He is back east this summer acting and directing with lots of NY credits, he will be back to Utah this year. We didnt meet the ATP chair, she is the English woman that was met at the unified.

The theater facilities are outdated and they are embarking on a capital campaign to construct a new building. Directly next door the dance department has an outrageously nice new building. They have two theaters and they are both black boxes which did not impress me but then an actor type pointed out that they wouldnt mind working in a closet so long as they were developing their craft.

I think I am being fair by saying there are much worse places you could get actor training (by far) but they are not to the level of a Rutgers, NCSA, and those types. You take the good with the bad. My seceratary commented that SLC is not a bad place for a single girl to be, which is true but then there are some students who would avoid the relative conservatism of the city, homosexuals for example. Hope that helped.

Thanks for your information about the College. :) It is very insightful! I will definitely take it into consideration.
