Just wanna say that my impression from Dean J is that we’re really looking too far into this and none of it matters; certainly not when trying to come up with reasons why UVA releases on a certain day. I’m not gonna look for quotes, but I’m confident she said something along the lines of there is no time in the middle. They finish making the decisions and they release them. There’s no careful planning of a release; if there was they’d announce it when you apply. They finish and they release and that’s all there is to it. I could be wrong but that’s what I’ve gathered.
Guys –
- Dean J said the other day "We're still working. We had a bit of a jump in applications, so there is more work to do than in past years."
- In past year 2016, the release date was Thursday 1/21.
- In past year 2015, the release date was Friday 1/23.
No one knows when decisions are coming (not even Dean J). But in light of her comment, why exactly would any of you be thinking that decisions this year would be coming EARLIER than they came in 2015 and 2016?

Wow, before I hopped on this thread I thought the decisions were definitely going to come out on or around January 31st, and now I’m being told they could come out tomorrow? Jeepers! Ignorance really is bliss…
Does anyone know if we’ll receive an email when our portal has been updated? I’m guessing we’ll have to log in to the portal to see the decision itself. Good luck to all of you guys!

@northwesty I don’t think that people are thinking EARLIER…I think that if you look at the trend over the last 3 years—they have come out 2 Fridays BEFORE the 31st…except for last year which was a Thursday because of snow. So, given that trend====tomorrow is 2 Fridays before the 31st…and some might have been thinking today because tomorrow is such a big day in Washington DC (and the world for that matter) with the inauguration, that maybe it was going to be today. It is of course, all speculative. I realize that we are told that when they are done that they are released and that I believe. But then again, why has it always been on a Friday (or in the case of last year - they weren’t expecting to be in the office on Friday because of snow). My feeling is they are done when they are done. No artificial deadlines…all apps are read and everyone has a fair chance of getting in!!!
I don’t really think the inauguration will impact when they release decisions.
when decisions do actually come out does anyone know how they release them? like is it on a portal or email or something ?

Uh oh Dean J just tweeted “How are we supposed to read files with this live video distracting us?” I think that means that they’re still reading them…Or am I just reading too much into this?
@UVAHopeful543 last year she tweeted a “hint” in the morning, maybe this is our hint that they are finishing up?? fingers crossed!!!

My calendar says today is 1/20. And that 1/20 is earlier than 1/21 and also earlier than 1/23. Plus Dean J says they are behind as compared to past years due to more apps.
But I may not be accounting for sun spots or the Winter Solstice. FYI, Cville is two hours away from DC. While I’m sure Dean J wants to see America great again, I’m not seeing why the inauguration has anything to do with UVA EA decision timing.

@northwesty Oh gosh. Not sure I understand your comment about “you realize that’s in the future?” I was just looking at the pattern. I get that pure “date” wise it is early. And yes I know that cville is 2 hours away from DC - used to live in Virginia and believe it or not, I went to UVA!! I am just having fun with the rest of the people on this forum and playing the guessing game. I love this school and enjoy seeing kids so excited about wanting to go to UVA. Not overthinking, just having fun! It is the best time of year for the students who are waiting for decisions from so many great schools.
Starting to think it isn’t today. This is painful. To know that decisions have been posted during this week for the past several years (I know the date is one day earlier than last, no flames plz), makes matters much worse here. Would just like to know that it won’t be today so we can stop checking and have an afternoon free from anxiety. Just how I feel, but wish (trying!) I didn’t.

Yeah it’s looking like a no go again today. Oh well, hopefully we don’t have to wait all the way until next Friday!
