@randomstudent21 My S is in state and received his Echols invite last Saturday. If it doesn’t workout now there is a process you can go through once you are at UVA. Good luck!
If you stay at a motel in Waynesboro, you can save money. It is a stress-free drive into Cville on I64 vs. sitting in traffic on Route 29.
Got a call from an alum today - it was a really nice touch, and definitely has rekindled some strong interest in UVa. It’s nice to feel like I’m being recruited - makes me feel really welcome and wanted.
Has any international student received their admission packet? If yes, then where are you from and when did you receive it?
I’m an American but I received my packet in Korea about two days ago.
Has anyone applied yet to the London First program? I’m trying to do that now, but for some reason, my SIS ID is not letting me apply… it’s not working for some reason. Has anyone else had this dilemma???
OOS son was rejected by UVA during the EA round. He was very bummed. This week he got into Vanderbilt. He was thrilled. Just wanted applicants who were rejected by UVA, there are other great students who will offer you great acceptances. Good luck to all who got in. You will be attending a great school.
@BigPapiofthree EA decision at Vanderbilt just came out?
Okay. He went EDII.
Yes ED2. The point was to give hope to other rejected students. UVA is a very tough admit for 'OOS. S had great test scores, GPA’s, rigor, EC’s, and Rec’s. While it was unfortunate that he did not get into UVA, the end result was admission to a great school.
Yes, there are many great colleges and universities, and they consider different factors. For instance, every year, there are students who are accepted by W&M and not accepted by UVa, and visa versa.
BigPapiofthree you give us hope! My D was deferred from UVA and is now steeling herself for likely rejections from UVA, William&Mary and Richmond. Accepted to,her safe choice UMass Amherst (we are from MA) but no merit and no honors college invitation, so she feels discouraged like all these years of very hard slog were a waste of time with excellent grades, ECs and so on. Good to know not all colleges make the same decisions! Congrats to your son! Vandy is excellent!
britlass: I’d check - some schools allow students to apply for their honors college after they complete a semester or two. (UVa also has a system for those applications)
The number of applications to UVa has been rapidly increasing. There are some students who are not offered admission today who would have been accepted a few years ago.
Deferred, but not down. Got accepted to my state school who’s acceptance rate rivals UVA. 37% acceptance rate for my state school. It’s getting brutal out there folks.
I got deferred in-state for engineering… anyone else?
Does anybody know when RD decisions come out?
Hi everyone! Was curious if any of the other girls out there accepted EA were planning on rushing? I’m conflicted; current UVA student says I should just go for it so I don’t have any regrets. I’m worried, though, about being rejected/not getting a bid. Does anybody have thoughts?
Charliesch you are precisely right - GC called UMass who confirmed this - also she applied undecided and I think this works against students in the top tiers. Yes she can transfer in to honors college later…
@bfc2017 If you think that there is a chance that you want to join a sorority then you should just go for it. However, to be honest, there are many more important issues to focus on at this point (you are still in high school) on whether you want to rush, such as which university you want to attend, what you want to major in, which classes to register for in your first semester, what type of housing (regular dorm, learning community) etc.
@bfc2017 I actually think you do need to consider the whole rush/sorority thing if you are going to UVA. If you can, I would talk to people that participate and those that don’t. I could be be wrong but the impression my daughter and I have of UVA, while a good one, is that the social life is dominated by the Greek scene. This is one of the reasons she is probably NOT going to UVA. Greek life isn’t for everyone and you need to think about your everyday life…of course all of the points that @londondad raises are certainly the most important things to consider, I do think you need to figure out if you want a college that is very Greek. I’m SURE there are other things to do on and around campus for non-Greek students, but from what we have heard, the Greek scene dominates. And I agree, you should go for it if you think you might want it. I would just keep an open mind to a wide array of sororities and don’t limit yourself to the more exclusive ones that are harder to get in to.
