University of virginia regular decision 2024

So a combined offer rate of 13.2% for the RD cycle, with 1004 In-State offers and 1449 OOS. With a total offer count of 8420, and their average yield rate of 41-43%, that would put the enrolled students around 3550, 200 off their designated enrollment goal. Hopefully, that means some of us on the waitlist will come off; none of this can be accurately predicted, however, and obviously the waitlist is sorted by residency and school. If DeanJ’s blog statistic for percent waitlisted refers to the RD cycle (18586 applicants) and not the entire pool (41,017), then the 17% waitlist offer amounts to almost 3200 students.

@goodschoolbound I really wouldn’t worry about UVA seems as though they really hate OOS applicants applying during RD. UVA has to keep a class of 2/3 in state and 1/3 out of state, so I wouldn’t worry about it at all.

@cabaret95 I know that this is commonly said, but Hoos will be Hoes sometimes. Lol

@Maltamilkbone I do not think that is a common phrase.

drewh02, were you factoring in the EA and ED deferred numbers to the RD cycle? I came up with 20,715 candidates which would mean 3,533 on the waitlist. Not a big difference, just trying to do something to get my mind off my decision.

@drewh02 I might just be a little too surrounded by Duke fans.

Waitlisted. Thanks, but no thanks. I’m sure there will be plenty of openings after “the video”. Who wants that? Good luck everyone!!!

@Sxofus What is “the video”? I got flat out rejected so I saw absolutely nothing.

@mgreen1117 I was. There were 25160 EA applicants, 2159 ED applicants, and 41017 overall. 41017-27319 = 13698. 6447 deferred EA, 570 deferred ED. 13698 + 4888 = 18586 applications reviewed in the RD pool. My math may be incorrect, or I may have read some of DeanJ’s numbers wrong.

@Maltamilkbone And I UVA fans. That makes more sense though.

Remember, thousands of students opt out of being on the waiting list and the waiting list can be thought of as having ten segments. It’s hard to predict where there will be room in the class.

The general thought is that the low numbers from the last two years are due to a mix of changing yield rates and March Madness. Imagine if our students were advancing through the rounds right now…

I wouldn’t even say it’s low key! Colleagues at other schools were posting about this a few days ago. The decision about a reply date change for UVA would likely come from outside of our office.

FWIW, I’m not sure one month will even give students time to travel, which is why we started working on alternative ways for admitted students to connected with faculty and current students on Monday. Every admission office in the country is doing the same right now. We’ll have more on this soon.

The only people who stick around for the salary and workload that comes with this job are the ones who truly love student. Keep in mind that we each have territories and we want the class full of “our” kids.

Remember that we maintain the same review throughout the season. We aren’t more lenient on one application term (ED, EA, RD).

@peachpuff3 Wow, the first acceptance on CC. RD sure is rough.

@Maltamilkbone I believe @Sxofus is referring to the controversial video posted by a student in the multicultural student center in mid-February.

I think a larger number of students, especially OOS, will be taken off the waitlist this year. For starters, they accepted about 1000 less students from OOS this year. Now with the coronavirus killing stock markets, a lot of people’s savings would have decreased and now may not be able to afford OOS schools. Also, some international students may not be able to attend due to the travel ban and other factors.

@krishdoi While they may have offered 950 less students from OOS this year, if taken in the context of 1400 less offers than last year. 8420 offers this year versus 9780 last year, with both the VA and OOS offer rates decreasing by ~3%: VA (36% → 33%); OOS (19% → 15%). I do think it’s probable that, if a certain school is lacking students, they will draw from the OOS applicants as opposed to in-state, but there are so many other factors involved.
