University of Washington or Loyola Marymount

I was accepted to both and i don't know where i want to go. Visited both (i am from washington state, 20 min from campus) love both!

help...

anyone have anything to say about either school, i would lvoe to hear it!

thanks

Any scholarships/fin. aid to either?

If you're in-state and you love Washington, I'd definitely go there. It's considered one of the better state schools in the country and I'd say it's a school that's really on the rise in a lot of ways. Loyola Marymount is more expensive and I think you can get a better education at Washington. I really shouldn't be talking because I don't know **** about Loyola Marymount.

No question, UDub is fantastic...I'd go there.

LMU will be more expensive...do you have a burning desire to attend a smaller Catholic school in L.A. and get away from home?

my family is pretty well off, so i was unable to fill out any fafsa's etc. I got no merit at either, so of course UW is way cheaper but that is not really an issue. I just want some comments from anyone who knows about these two schools... pros cons...

thanks guys!

i just did some research and realized how actually well know U of washington is and how great of a public school it is. You know you don't really know it when its in your own backyard...

^ Yep...and LMU is at best #5-6 university in L.A.

Huskies, if these were my choices, I'd pick UW over LMU. Tell your parents to put the big bucks into a savings account for your grad school (JD, MBA, PhD, Pharm D, MD, etc.) and buy you a nice car.

I know a couple of kids who had similar choices and picked UW and are happy there.

Washington.

I go to Northwestern, but sometimes (in the winter mostly, when I'm walking against the wind in 0 degrees) I wish I had went to Washington because I've grown up loving Seattle and the UW campus so much :( Close to home with ALL my high school friends there (back then was a downer for me), beautiful campus with beautiful architecture, in a city like NO OTHER, I promise, and great academics. Had I known Chicago's weather sucks more than Seattle dammit........

I'd actually go to LMU.

I usually encourage people to save money where they can, but going to school 20 minutes from your house? Ehhh.

If money's not a huge issue, spread your wings. Get some space.

I'd go to U-Dub with that background. Save the cash.

go to U-Dub and do a semester/year abroad; with the savings you could pickup a Beemer while in Germany. LOL

thanks for all the comments, anything else?

washington is d-1 pac-10, so you can count on seeing a stronger athletics dept. at washington

lmu does have athletics, but just not as big as washington

anyone else have any thoughts...?

I am starting to lean towards UW, but still i would love to hear more opinions!

btw, both I would do business.

bump 10 char

I'm a undergrad at the UW, and honestly a friend of mine just got in to the UW med school. She got into Loyola as well, and I think she's choosing UW. I'd choose UW from what I hear. I had another friend get a 97% Mcat score, rejected from UW, and is now in Dartmouth. UW, in my opinion, has one of the best med background and prestige around in the US, with only a few comparable Universities. The medical research taking place in teh northwest, as well as job opportunities available afterwards, also give the UW a strong position. Congrats on UW-if you do end up choosing it. But I am not entirely familiar with Loyola, and I am an undergrad a the UW, so of course i'm a little biased. But I trust my friends, who all chose UW as their first choice, did their research and chose it for good reason, despite the fact that traveling out of state (although more expensive) looks attractive to most of them, since they are doing their undergrad here as well.

UW is really good for business but it is a competitive major. My niece was a top student and chose to got there for business and had a great experience. Got her masters overseas...kind of the best of both worlds.

LMU has a nice campus and is smaller and away from home if that is important but it would obviously be more expensive and I don't believe that their business options could come close to the opportunities at UW.

Guess it depends on what is most important to you. They are two very different schools that will offer very different overall experiences.

thanks so much. good advice for sure!

anyone else have any insight to help make my decision?

BUMP

A friend of mine, who is from the Seattle area, started at UW, hated it and ended up tranferring to Seattle University. He loved SU and says UW is one of the most overrated colleges in the US
