Approximately how many University scholars are invited each year? And how many of them are likely international Students? Will they increase the number of scholars this year?

I think they will decrease the number this year - the first year number was small and the second year had too large a yield rate so I think there will be fewer. However, the actual number is a mystery. Past years have included international students.

According to the Northeastern web site, the number of University Scholars is capped at 75. Here is a web page about the University Scholars program with some statistics:

found this on the website -

How many University Scholars are there?

There are currently 174 University Scholars. For our next cohort, we hope to bring approximately 120 additional University Scholars to campus.

My son is a freshman in the Scholars program and I think there are about 130 freshman scholars. If I recall, about 300 were offered acceptance into the program which yielded the 130 students. I don’t have any real information on the number of international scholars but based on his friend group, I would guess between 15 - 20 % of the scholars are international students. Good luck.

@Scissorhands09 In the other post, you said you got into USP. Could you post your stat? I’m an dying to know both the EA decision and whether or not I could qualify for USP >.< :-SS Thank you!

Hi LazyCat,

I’m currently a second year in the Scholars Program. My year was the first year that they increased the number accepted, in hopes that it would give them a yield of 75 people, but instead 130 people took them up on their offer. That raised the school’s median profile a lot for the next year so they decided to aim for 120 students per year. I know that everyone loves to know stats of admitted scholars but admission to the program is primarily about what you do in high school. My friends in the program and I have few similarities in our academic histories other than we went above and beyond both inside and especially outside the classroom. Basically, doing exceptionally well academically is an expectation, but proving that you can be an asset to the university when grades fail (pun intended) to matter is what they truly look for.

Hope I helped!
