University Scholarship

Sometimes individual schools (like engineering) also give scholarships to students they particularly want. NMF awards can also be in addition to a Presidential award. There is a limit on the USC merit awards you can receive, unfortunately.

Do you know what the limit is on the number of USC merit awards?

I was told by someone at Marshall that if you are presidential it is unlikely that you will receive any additional merit money…

Many of the Presidential and Trustee scholars that post on CC ended up getting the University Scholarship in past years in the amount of $2,500. It is no guarantee that it will happen again this year, but there has been a pattern of this happening.

Also my understanding on the limit of merit awards, as far as tuition goes, is that they cannot exceed $8,000 over the base tuition cost. However if the Merit aid is not tuition specific, then the total Merit Aid cannot cause your total aid to exceed the COA of appoximately $54K.

Do you know if the university scholarship is awarded later than everything else? Or if it is awarded by the school to which you have been admitted? How do you even find out - on Oasis it only shows the Presidential. Thanks.

Yes, Josie. The University Scholarship is awarded later. Such a wonderful surprise! (except for all the in-the-know ahead-of-time ccers). The mysterious part is they don’t really explain it or how it comes to be awarded, and the total could be as high as $4000/year --except if you already have presidential or trustee, in which case it goes as high as $2500/year and is added to your other merit award on your Oasis. USC sends you an email to show that another scholarship has been awarded, I believe.

man if i get this, i think i can get through usc without taking loans! (if i work in the summer, and maybe part time during school)

anyone know if NMF presidentials can get this too?

As mentioned by the previous post, yes.

so…no one on here submitted their SIR…right? ;)

i guess patience really is a virtue.

SIR? what is that? And thank you Madbean for all the info - fingers crossed

SIR = Statement of Intent to Register = Deposit

I got this scholarship for $4,000, but I didn’t receive any other merit based awards from USC.

when did you find out life?

It’s on my financial award online.

If there’s no information available, I guess I didn’t get any scholarships… =(

We haven’t received the University Scholarship as of today, but I couldn’t hold out any longer and I decided to go ahead and pay our deposit today, didn’t want to get too close to the May 1st deadline.

Anyone else hear anything yet?

Fight On!

Nothing here either, kind of a bummer since it would have been a nice touch… I guess they had to make their financial aid money stretch further this year to cover a lot of people’s need so they didn’t have much left over, maybe next year!

Congrats on your decision

Fight On!

Thanks qzar. We’ll see, maybe they’ll still surprise us. Supposedly they increased aid by 8% this year, so maybe there is still hope!

We paid the $300 on April 8, but have not received a financial package. Is the University Scholarship the same as a University Grant?

no. University Scholarship is usually either 2500 or 4000 dollars. University Grant varies depending on your financial package and EFC.
