I can chance back if you want me to.

I'm only a junior, so my scores may change. However, the main focus are my extra curricular activities (the time spent is provided that I continue on with them until the end of senior year, and I believe that a few more may be added on). I kind of want to keep it anonymous right now so I will be a little vague, but if you need more information, could you post/revisit when I edit?

GPA: 4.0 unweighted (all core classes are honors/AP)

1 AP test: 5

Extra-curriculars:
2 sports- one for 4 years, one for 3
2 academic extracurriculars- one for 4 years, one for 1
2 years chamber
Instrument which I have been playing for many years
-State solo esemble
2 years student council
-Part of committees as well
NHS
4 years merit award

most likely PSAT semi-finalist (my score was 7 above this year's senior's cutoff and 5 above the max known in the state)

Provided the ACT/SAT are sufficient for these schools, what are my chances for...
1) Northwestern, WashU (St. Louis)
2) Any Ivies, more specifically, Harvard, Yale, Princeton

Your GPA and scores seem great, but these are all really tough schools to get into. Sure you have a shot, but without something to spark interest in you, your shot is the same as all the other people with adequate scores and grades. Are you good enough at either of your sports to be recruited? Or, have you maybe won awards in your academic ecs?

Hey, thanks for your input.

The ivies was just a stretch. I don’t see my self applying there unless I get a 35/36 or 2300+. They are mainly to test the ECs

For sports, is being part of the varsity team (possible) enough to make you stand out or do you need to be like state-level?
And for the academic ecs, I placed 2nd in a “JV” type competition freshman year and placed in the 20s (out of like 200ish) this year in a varsity type competition (although these aren’t really major awards).

edit: by jv and varsity type competitions, I mean like the competitions participated by the jv/varsity members for that academic team.

I don’t think those are the kinds of things that put you on the top of the stack at ivies. They don’t necessarily make you stand out.

Are they sufficient for schools like Northwestern or WashU?

Can we stop asking idiotic questions? Yes, a 35/36 will suffice. And no, a varsity sport does not impress admissions lol. I would argue they barely help, or maybe even hurt, because you could instead be doing activities that show your interest and show that you are passionate (and good) at something.

For activities to really matter in college admissions, you need to tell them why they should care. Sport team essays get incredibly cliche.

Guidance counselors at our school suggest cutting back on the sports Jr. and Sr. year and like for students to focus on E.C.s which are aligned with the students academic interests. Out of a class of 250 this year, 11 have been accepted early admission to Harvard, Yale, Columbia, MIT and Stanford.

Great you have a 4.0. But without an ACT or SAT score to go off of I have nothing or you. Your ECs are generic for any high school college bound student

@keesh17 jesus your school must be amazing…

to the OP, provided your scores are 2200+ (2300+ would be solid) honestly i think you stand well for northwestern or wustl because your ec’s are good, but nothing very unique or stellar.

if you’re really interested in an ivy, apply and show your interest and passion. you may be lucky, but it’s quite tough as you certainly know.

For safeties we need to know more about you and what kind of school you want. Your big state public school might be your safety. But, if you want particular schools, what kind of school do you want, what do you want to study, where do you want to live and is cost important?

I know that you want to be vague and such but these EC’s aren’t great if you don’t have awards or some way to show that you are better than average. Are you being scouted? That’s good. Are you captain or a position in something that you enjoy? That’s good as well. Schools like to see a passion that puts you apart from everyone else.
