I applied to Tisch and was accepted last year. I am now in the middle of my 1-year deferral, and I've started having second thoughts about it. The thing is, last year I was really into movies, so I applied for film at Tisch, but now I feel like that was kind of a rash decision, and that I'm much more passionate about computers. I had been telling myself to give film a chance, that once I was in school I'd probably remember how much I liked it, but for almost $60k a year, that's a pretty big risk.

I'm thinking about trying to transfer to CAS, and working towards a comp science or engineering major instead. What should I do? :(

I’m not really sure at this point. I feel like computers and technology are more for me, though.

Is it at all possible to switch out of Tisch and into CAS before freshman year? Is it difficult to transfer out of Tisch? I think I’ve only ever heard of people transferring in, not out…

I’m not sure how feasible this is, but logically, it would be easier to transfer from Tisch to CAS than from CAS to Tisch. CAS doesn’t require a portfolio or audition.

You could also do a tech major in CAS and a film minor in Tisch.

I don’t think you can do a minor at Tisch, but you could minor in tech at CAS, I would imagine. I would give Tisch a shot first. You can get out, but you probably can’t get back in…

I second what Don says. If you take a semester in Tisch and absolutely feel you like computers better, use the Tisch classes for electives and transfer to CAS. Call admissions if you are worried about being able to transfer from Tisch to CAS, but I don’t think it’s a problem.
