Update: Decision Letters

Hey all… It is great to start my Friday reading posts from a lot of excited admitted students! Congrats to everyone that has heard, and thank you for continuing to be patient to those that are still waiting.

itsjai… Were you invited as a REMS finalist? If you came to interview during the REMS Interviewing Event, you should hear not too long from now. If you did not come to interview and did not receive a letter, you may want to call just to confirm your status.

mkswim… Yes, we’d still like to see your midyear reports. It is very important to us that students continue to do well in their senior year, and though it rarely happens (and I mean rarely), students that completely check-out of high school early run some big risks with regard to their status as admitted students here.

Financial aid packages should be sent out approximately 1 week after your admit letters. If you have specific questions as the weeks go by regarding aid, please let me know. We do have a financial aid counselor that is willing to help out on CC.

MConklin - No was not a invited finalist, however I am not sure if only the selected finalists have been sent the acceptance or all combined program applicants have been considered?

Congratulations to everyone! =)
I am still waiting (nervously) in Australia for my decision. Hopefully it will come in the next couple of days…

Yes…congrats to everyone getting in!

My son is still waiting, and we live about 15 minutes from campus.

I received an email the other day from the financial aid office about missing tax return materials. The thing is, I haven’t mailed my documents to IDOC yet (but will do so on Monday) because of logistics issues. (My mum and I live in two different countries so I had to mail and receive documents to her…)
It will be helpful if someone can answer my question- Will I receive a decision before the documents reach URochester? Thank you. =)

If the Decision letters just came out and you just submitted your IDOC last week, Rochester may not have the IDOC info before they send out the aid letter. Are they going to base the aid on the PROFILE and FAFSA and then just tweak it if the IDOC is different? Please clarify.

Hello all,
It seems MConklin has explained the Financial Aid (need-based) side well. The Financial Aid Office will be notifying students (electronically) of their Financial Aid about 1-2 weeks after you receive your Decision letter. Keep in mind this is only for those students who have applied and submitted all required information to Financial Aid and you have to receive a decision in order to receive an award.

Correct, the Financial Aid Office requested that you estimate the Financial Aid information as accurately as you could. Based on that the office will send an award based on what they have, if they determine that information is sufficient to notify a student of their award. Once an award is determine they will need an actual tax return, through IDOC if it is applicable, to make the necessary. You will receive an email from IDOC if you are required to complete IDOC.

MConklin - when is the set wave of decisions coming out?

I just received my acceptance letter via Fedex today! It’s my first acceptance/decision so I’m very excited and happy!=)

MConklin - was there a “theme” behind the first wave of acceptances? I know you said to not freak out, but that’s exactly what D is doing right now. She’s looked at the stats of the accepted students (very much in line with hers). She’s not a NMF. She’s trying to figure out a “logical” reason why she wouldn’t have heard as yet and can’t, based on the information in these threads. Thanks!

Hello Mr. MConklin-
My D is a National Merit finalist, Intel & siemens Seifinalist and also a Bausch & Lomb science award. Her ECs and SAT stats are also excellent. I am also wondering if there is a theme behind the first set of decisions; And also when are the next set going to be mailed out. Also, I saw from one of the posts that the decision came by FedEX. Is that common- Should we be on the lookout for FedEX?
Thanks!

Hi, All - The majority of the letters were sent to ‘Combined Admission Program’ applicants, Renaissance Finalists, and students from more distant regions of the country/world. I would remind your sons/daughters that less than 10% of our applicant pool has heard from us, and that approximately 10% of our applicant pool still needs an initial review. Many very qualified candidates have not been sent letters.

Our second major round of letters is projected to be sent on March 10th, and the final on March 22nd. Though it may not help to alleviate much anxiety, everyone should note that we still had more than 300 admit letters to send out in the last 10 days of March last year.

Please keep the questions coming if you have any concerns.

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks Mike!

Mike - thanks for your response. I’ll send your note to D and remind her to stay calm!

Just wondering, do these decision mailings include transfer decisions as well or are those separate? The site indicates that my application has been with a first reader for some time now.

Tsubaki… This does not include transfer. Transfer review typically occurs after Freshman review simply because our candidates for freshman admission need to respond much sooner.

for MConklin-- I just received a merit scholarship letter (and am very grateful to have received one!) However, I also applied for need-based aid. Would that information come separately, or does it mean I didn’t receive any need-based aid?

Our D just got her merit scholarship letter today (we are on the West Coast). She was awarded the Rush Rhees Scholarship - $20,000 a year!!

Congrats to you both! crossing my fingers for a letter soon…
