New Year, New Direction

In July of this year, our Office of Admissions welcomed Adele Brumfield to lead our department into the next decade. (To read more about Adele’s journey to UW-Madison, click here.) As you can imagine, with a new director comes new vision. New vision leads to new direction. New direction leads to changes.
What this means for many of you (and I’ve heard this concern echoed across many of the high schools and college fairs I’ve attended over the last five weeks) is that we haven’t yet made any admissions decisions for freshmen. Yes; we understand that many of your friends had received letters by this point last year. But this is not last year. Rest assured: not one person who has applied for freshman admission has received a decision letter just yet. (Insert breath of fresh air here.)
We are still safely on target to meet the decision deadline of January 15 for those who have submitted their completed application POSTMARKED by November 1 (the deadline for our first notification period, which is this Monday). Students who apply by February 1 (the second notification period deadline) will have their decisions made on or before March 15. Applying within the first or second notification periods does not bear any weight in the decision making process. Every student who submits a completed application by February 1 will be given full and equal consideration.
We are excited for your continued interest in UW-Madison and look forward to working with you throughout application season. We’re asking you to please be patient and trust the process; we have these notification period dates in place for a reason!
