update on waitlist

Question: I got waitlisted, and I know that FA is taken into consideration. I applied for FA, but given results from other schools, would likely not get any FA at Middlebury either. When they consider this type of stuff when admitting people off the WL, do they see how much FA you would need, or simply that you applied for FA? Would it benefit me to let them know that I don’t need FA or would that just make me look bad?

My question would be, is it true that you need no money OR is it true that you’re willing to take out loans for a Middlebury education. They are two different things because one implies you can afford full boat and one implies that you will meet the gap of what your family can afford with loans whether they be subsidized or not.

This is for Frogger, my daughter is in the same position as you, we applied for financial aid but don’t qualify for any. It’s a weird position to be in. If you can afford to pay the full fare at Middlebury without help from them I think you should let them know that.

Modadunn-- No, we don’t have $50,000 lying around, but we don’t qualify for aid. So I guess the second one?

Pea-- Did you let them know? If so, how? I’ve already submitted my letter of interest. At the time I couldn’t think of a smooth way of letting them know I didn’t need FA.

so when do wait listed students get notified?

Hey everyone!! Middlebury will start working on the waitlist this week so we will probably start hearing from them next week (hopefully).

Cris// how could you possibly know this! good of you!!

I asked one of the admission counselors and she told me so… They have not yet determined how many appliacnts would be taken off the wait list…
goodluck to all of you!!

sensational! you sure they are probably notifying wltees starting next week cris?

yeah I am positive… If you have been accepted, they will give you a call but if they have not picked you, then they will not notify you until the end i.e late june or july…

So they will still notify you either way at some point? Is that customary?

Yes. It is customary for a waitlist school to notify students on the waitlist for either acceptance (various methods like phone, email, letter) or non-acceptance (usually a snail mail letter indicating that waitlist is officially closed.) Acceptances can be on a rolling basis until the class is filled, usually during May and up through mid-June, depending on the school’s policy of reviewing waitlisted cadidates. The “waitlist is closed” letter sometimes doesn’t come until early July, which makes for a long, drawn-out college admissions process.

Best advice to all is to fall in-love more and more with your accepted school. Makes for a much more pleasant end to senior year!

So anyone got a call yet?

Know no one on the waitlist for Midd, but I do know a few from Colgate and one girl from S’s school got a call yesterday…

I get the weekly link for the campus paper. Looks like there might be 16 spots for Sept and 8 for February still remaining. No mention of how many people took a place on the waitlist or when they might be making that contact. However, of those having already paid deposits (584), one might want to also consider how many of those paying deposit to Midd are on waitlists and will jump ship to attend that school should the option become available.

[Class of 2013 now totals 666 - News](http://media.www.middleburycampus.com/media/storage/paper446/news/2009/05/07/News/Class.Of.2013.Now.Totals.666-3737640.shtml)

Thanks for the link…

so? how to calculate the number to be accepted off the wl?

Winnie,

Beyond the numbers, I dont think you do. I honestly think you try to love the school where you put a deposit (as I assume there is one). And then if you are called and/or contacted you can be surprised and excited. Otherwise, you’re not going to find yourself excited for the school you are going to because you aren’t letting yourself be. You know?

Hey, I know lots of kids who stay on waitlists and when they get off of them they are happy with the way things worked out and dont’ switch.

modadunn// you know what? i only went in for one school and am now on the wl. yes, as you said i loved the school, with all my heart. unfortunately you don’t really have a fairly good eye for guessing

I don’t know if having a good eye for guessing is something that I would count as a reliable skill or count on in general.
