Update: Remaining Decision Letters

teamfrangela92: Good question. Financial Aid will send information regarding your aid package via e-mail 5-7 after an admit letter has been recieved. Students are notified of merit based scholarships via postal services, as we had a glitch with our first merit aid e-mail communication.

AVHS Dad: You are welcome, and good luck to you too. Your feedback, in addition to feedback from other CC posters, has been very helpful. Like any office, there are things that we do well and things that we certainly need to improve, and my hope is that the feedback that I recieve on this forum will, at least in part, help us to improve the next time around.

MConklin: Will the merit aid snail-mails be sent out at the same time as the FA emails?

I just found out today that my daughter has been placed on the Alternate list. We are mailing back the response today saying that she would like to be considered for both fall 2010 and January 2011.

Any thoughts on what her prospects are? Thanks.

mindymakg: It might be helpful to post some of her stats.

midymakg: See another thread that was just started regarding chances of being accepted from the alternate list. As I mention in that post, we have taken few students from the alternate list in the last few years, though this year may be tougher to predict given the challenges in the economy.

AVHS Dad: Merit-aid letters are delivered approximately 7 days after the admit letter.

Thanks MConklin!

Don’t give up hope, just got my acceptance letter now (my mail man is so happy that I will no longer be stalking him). The letter was dated March 22nd, Postmark date 3/29, at my mailbox 3/31, in Albany, NY. Thank you again MConklin for keeping us informed during this painful wait.

MConklin, can those of us still waiting call the Admissions Office to get our decisions? Or if not yet, at any point in the near future? Just wondering, since some colleges allow it, usually starting on April 1, and it would likely soothe some of our nerves.

Benandorf: Unfortunately we are not able to reveal decisions over the phone. Decision letters are supposed to be postmarked by April 1st, but as I mentioned previously, applications that were completed after our January 1st deadline may have to wait a few days. If you call, we can confirm whether or not a letter has been sent, but we can’t reveal a decision. If for some unforseen reason a letter has not been sent by or on April 1st, we will handle those calls on a case by case basis. Bottom line… don’t ever hesitate to call - we will help as much as we can.

Alright, thanks for the response. I’ll wait another few more days before I call to find out what’s up; I got my app in before January 1st, but just barely, so I’ve assumed that’s why I’m in the last batch to hear, one way or the other.

On another note, do you know if Rochester has a day for admitted students to visit? I’d like to start looking at airline tickets, in the chance that I get in, but I haven’t seen anything to say whether or not there’s a particular day/weekend that something is going on, or when would be best to visit.

Benandorf, here’s the info on admitted students day, called “Spring Open Campus.”
[University of Rochester : Event’s Registration](http://enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/soc/)

Ah, thanks, I can’t believe I overlooked that!

Yes, you should definitely visit the campus. We didn’t visit until D got accepted last year, and U of R became our number 1 choice after the visit.

no news in new jersey…& i applied back in october. if i don’t have a letter in the mail tomorrow, then i don’t know what -_-

I second skatingmom’s comment. Rochester was not my son’s first choice until he visited again after being accepted. In my opinion, he would not have been happier anywhere else.

Another vote for a visit - Rochester wasn’t high on d’s list of schools, so we didn’t visit until after acceptance, when she did have other choices. She is now a very happy junior.

Hey MConklin don’t forget to tell them about that Palace of Blue Collar Gastronomic Delight.
I’m referring of course to the infamous Nick Tahou’s and that artery clogging concoction of profound sensory stimulation ‘The Garbage Plate.’ Eaten more than a few myself. Nowhere else but Rochester. One more reason I Love Rochester.

Can those on the waitlist attend the spring open campus??

Yes, WL students can attend SOC.

SummerUdad… You can still find a good garbage plate in Rochester, but I regret to inform you that Nick Tahou’s is no longer in business. I have often recommended garbage plates to prospective students, but have never been able to describe them in a way that makes them at all appealing - do you mind if I borrow your description? It has been two years since my last garbage plate, and I don’t know that I have fully recovered.

I found an interesting link to Garbage Plates in Rochester, or as they say at Horizons at the Lodge at Woodcliff: Plat De Refuse!
