Update

I just learned I won a national award. Is it too late to upload an update onto the portal??

^^ Congratulations! No, it’s not too late. However, as the full committee is currently meeting and discussing applicants, I would update the portal and FAX the update to Harvard Admissions 617-495-8821. FWIW: I don’t know quickly an update to the portal is viewed, whereas paper FAXES spewing out of a FAX machine need to be dealt with ASAP.

@gibby Thank you for your help! I called Harvard Admissions and they said that I should just upload the update to the portal? So I uploaded it but I’m still a little worried they won’t see it in time

They will. With all due respect to @gibby , I am not a believer in this case of trying to circumvent the system. Harvard is very clear on how they want updates handled - via the portal. Harvard tends to like it when instructions are followed. If you are lucky enough to be admitted, you will find that instructors also like instructions followed. It is not uncommon for an instructor to not accept a paper that has been emailed/slipped under the office door/put in the faculty mailbox if the syllabus states to submit through the learning management system.

Harvard has been doing this for many many years; they have a process in place to handle updates. Now, whether the update will impact the final decision is a totally separate question.

@skieurope What if the organization offers to update colleges? Should just pass he fax number? Thanks!

@YaleMIT There’s rarely an answer that covers every situation 100% , but I’m hard pressed at the moment to think of a situation where an organization should do the update instead of the applicant. But if one were to exist, I’m sure it would be OK for them to fax.
