Has anyone sent the admissions office updates since submitting the application? If so, how did you go about doing it? I don't know if it will make any difference by now, but I would like to let the adcoms know of some of my recent accomplishents. Any thoughts?

yeah. i sent in some info about siemens ap award and about winning a state government/speech competition. just email them and start it off with "im wondering if its too late to add materials to my files..." and then explain what you wanted to add. they usually reply in a day or two saying that the info's been printed out and added to your file.
however, i don't think time allows for further extra materials as of now. it is MID-MARCH already and they probably have already reached a decision.

i agree with tongchen...i don't think that there's really a point anymore...they release decisions in two weeks...unless you won the nobel prize or something, i doubt that whatever it is that you (or anyone else for that matter) is sending will matter...sorry.

i think it's pretty much too late now...they're prbly done with decisions already =/

i emailed them about sending them my january A levels scores and they said to fax them over. this was a couple of days ago. so i don't think it'd hurt to email them and ask if it's too late.

Just email them. There are 2 possibilities:

First option: the decisions are reached, it's already too late. In this case, sending in additional information cannot hurt you. If you've been rejected, the only thing that could happen is that they might have another look at your application. If you have been accepted, they'll certainly NOT say: "We accepted this candidate, but he disturbed us with an email, so we'll reject him instead." So, no matter what, if the decisions have been made already, it cannot hurt you.

Second option: no decisions have been reached yet, another significant award / success / whatever can, therefore, still help you. In this case, if your accomplishment really is significant, it is unlikely that they'll hold it against you and feel disturbed by your email.

Conclusion: no matter what, if you feel it can help you, send it in. Since it's already late, send an email. A letter could get lost/take too long, a fax could get lost as well. Email is the fastest option available and the safest as well. Also, if you don't send it in and get rejected, it could be that you have the feeling "had I only sent it in, they had possibly taken me." Believe me, that's a bad feeling, so don't risk not sending it in.

It can't hurt to email them....

Thanks everyone. I ended up emailing the admissions office last night and I got an email back today saying that the information had been added to my file. So perhaps they are still making decisions? In any way, we will know in less than three weeks! Good luck to everyone.

I just sent an email yesterday as well, and they said they added it to my file, I guess it's not too late yet.

i did it this weekend, and got a similar response. my guess is that it certainly could not hurt, and might help, so why not?

just wondering...who are you supposed to email if you want to update your application?

I emailed it to college@fas.harvard.edu. This is the email address listed on the page where you log in with your applicant ID#. If you send an email, I would include this ID# along with your high school...I remember reading somewhere that they wanted this on all of the emails that they receive.

hmmm...I emailed them, but I never got an email back. :S

wtrbear, when did you email them?

Hey, I sent in an update last month via email to the main email, and they told me to do this in the email:

"Any further updates should be emailed directly to
fileroom@fas.harvard.edu to avoid delay or loss."

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Is mailing in updates OK too? I snail mailed my update at the end of Feb. =/

I originally emailed them at the file room address about a week ago, never heard anything back, and then I just re-emailed them the update at college@fas.harvard.edu last night. I just got an email back from the second address this morning. Huh.

I don't think it'll matter anymore, but sending an update can't harm you.

Stars: I got the same e-mail back about the file-room e-mail address. I updated all of the colleges I hadn't heard from a week or two ago (put it off way too long), with the same idea as someone earlier in this thread: It can't hurt, and if I'm on the edge, maybe it'll help.
