I would say that as an OOS RD applicant, you are in the “reply hazy” area. I know some OOS applicants with similar test scores/GPA and impressive ECs who were denied EA, and some OOS applicants with similar test scores/GPA and less impressive ECs who were admitted EA. If our school’s Naviance results are any guide, your scores are similar to those of accepted students, although those results include both EA and RD applicants. Of course, only the UNC-CH admissions office will know for sure.

Just curious, but why didn’t you apply EA at UNC-CH with your statistics and grades?

Hi gandalf78, thanks for replying :). I didn’t have the time to apply for UNC Early Action because I made a mistake and asked a little late for teacher rec letters. I asked around mid-September and by then, most of the teachers were too busy to submit a rec letter so early so I had no choice but to apply RD for all of the colleges I applied to. Our IB program is relatively small, so everyone asks the same few teachers.

Well, UNC-CH doesn’t make it easy with a 10/15 EA application deadline, either.

To elaborate on my earlier comment, I think that you probably are better situated than a lot of OOS RD applicants, given the test scores/GPA/ECs that you have; getting into UNC-CH, however, is just so difficult for OOS applicants, whether EA or RD.

But irrespective of your outcome at UNC-CH, don’t stress too much about it. Here is a link to an article that I read last year by Frank Bruni (himself an alumnus of UNC-CH), which helps restore a sane perspective on the entire admissions process for colleges today: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/15/opinion/sunday/frank-bruni-how-to-survive-the-college-admissions-madness.html?rref=collection%2Fcolumn%2Ffrank-bruni&_r=1 . Your profile suggests that you will succeed wherever you end up at college, and I wish you the best.

I read the article. That’s a really good mindset to have, and getting into a top tier school definitely isn’t everything. Thanks for the advice. It was helpful and encouraging to say the least!

Bump:
I would really appreciate it if people chanced me for the following schools as well
NYU Stern
UMich Ross
University of Virginia
Emory

Back again. In terms of UVA, if our school’s Naviance results are any guide, your scores cluster with those of accepted students, although those results are mostly for EA applicants. One thing in your favor with UVA over UNC-CH is that UVA accepts up to 27% OOS applicants, whereas UNC-CH is limited to accepting 18% OOS applicants; so with a higher percentage of OOS applicants who are accepted for admission, I imagine that you would have a better chance.

Fewer data points for comparison regarding Emory, but your stats look comparatively good. Can’t say about the others.

You will definitely get accepted if your in-state!! You still have a good shot if your out of state though, but chances are much less, not because of your stats, but simply because your out of state. You probably don’t have anything to worry about though!
