@alamemom I have sent in my css profile along with my fafsa. On one of your earlier posts you mentioned how one can’t receive their acceptance letter without a Financial letter sent to the admissions office. Did I interpret this correctly, and if so, what should I do now?

Soaroneagles and every other US applicant, you do NOT have to provide any FA information (css, fafsa, nothing) to get a decision from USC. It is only International applicants who must provide a special form that shows they have the $$ to pay for tuition at USC. This is, again, not something to worry about at all for American applicants.

phew thank you madbean

Agree w/madbean’s post! Sorry if it was confusing and stressful!!! Just to emphasize: Only International applicants must provide a financial statement.

Hi! Sorry this doesn’t answer your question, but rather ask one of my own. I’m kind of freaking out here. I’ve heard of so many people here talking of recieving a letter pertaining to the scholarship. I’m from southern orange county. If I haven’t recieved one yet, does that mean I’m definitely not getting one?

^^sorry you are freaking out, hrgreen. This is a tense time for sure. The fact is no one can know the answer to your question. Everyone is wondering if and when, but it will take a while for all the mail to be delivered and there may even be a second wave of mailings–there were last year in the first week of Feb which took their time to be delivered across the country.

Stay cool. Try to relax. If the only way you can afford USC is to get one of the top scholarships we all realize how tough this week is going to be. But 'SC is good with Financial Aid for those who qualify and they offer a lot of smaller scholarships (the Dean’s is worth 1/4 tuition for 4 years, no interview). And they are one of the very few top universities that offer such large 4-year merit scholarships and as you can imagine, there are many top top students who try to get one–many more than can be invited for an interview.

I often say getting the invite for Trustee/Presidential/Mork is just like getting admission to the toppest ivies–it’s a reach and a great surprise for everyone, no matter how wonderfully qualified.

good luck.

hrgreen, today is the first day the letters started being received. We are in South Orange County also and my son did receive his today. The postmark was yesterday so the letters were only posted yesterday. Be patient for a few more days. Most should receive letters if they are being offered a scholarship within the next couple of weeks. My son received both his acceptance letter and Trustee Scholarship Finalist information. A couple years ago, another of my sons also received his acceptance and a Dean’s scholarship in late January.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate hearing that. Just wondering, do you happen to know how challenging it is to recieve these scholarships? I have a 2150 sat and a 4.2 gpa. I know you never really know for sure, but I’m hoping I’m in the ball park academically.

^Take a look at the accepted students so far this year. There was a ~2150 SAT who got in, but to Annenberg (different admissions process, I’m thinking) and the rest were pretty much over 2300 SAT.

Alright… I’m quite confused…

I’m in SoCal, and just received my admissions letter. It’s official. But there is absolutely nothing here about scholarships… It was my impression that only students being considered for the Trustee/Presidential scholarships are admitted in late January/early February. Is this still correct? Any idea what is going with my situation?

Thanks!

Sometimes, there has been 2 separate mailings to one applicant.

Jace333, I’m guessing you were considered for a trustee/presidential and might be receiving a dean or other scholarship if you don’t get the invite to Explore. They liked you and admitted you! Congrats!

Received today in Texas!!!

The package arrived in Colorado!

Anyone got it in NoCal ?

For those who got an admissions packet but no invitation for scholarship interviews, we saw that happen last year to in very small numbers. Of course, not everyone who applies to USC for scholarship consideration posts to CC, even though it sometimes seems like it. But we were a bit puzzled last year and there’s no saying why this occurs. You may want to search the archives and see what the final outcome was for those students. I can’t remember if they all got Dean’s (separate letter comes for that & no interview) or not so I don’t want to spread false hope just in case.

The great news is you are admitted to USC, but it can be hard not to be disappointed when you clearly came very very close to receiving more merit money.

Received today in PA!!

@caimom, I am in NorCal and have not received anything.

@Jace333 One of my older sons who was admitted three years ago received his admission letter in January. He was awarded a Dean’s Scholarship but I don’t remember if it came in a separate package or not. So it’s not just Trustee/Presidential scholarship finalists who are getting the letters of acceptance. I believe there’s a good chance that you’ve received some sort of merit and/or were close to it. Congrats on your acceptance. I hope you get another packet in the post!

We are in MD. S received packet today: acceptance letter and notification that he’s a finalist for Presidential. Very exciting! I wish you all good luck! Does anyone know the number of finalists and those who are ultimately awarded the scholarship?
