UPenn ED Class of 2022 Discussion

does anyone know how much penn values being a first generation college student ?

@daththiccboi who at penn said that they didn’t want to defer people? do you have a source?

Hearsay from this website on page 29 of this discussion it is discuessed as

“I spoke to an admissions officer this month when I was on campus who told me all this.
@trakk123 From what I heard from an admissions event tailored for ED applicants: they want to reject or accept everyone. They won’t defer someone who they don’t want at Penn (aka they won’t keep you on the hook for no reason). If you are deferred, you are definitely still in the running and they either a) didn’t have enough spots or b) want to see your senior grades.”

So that it where I got my info from, could all be made up though

@daththiccboi they always say that they don’t want to defer people - so do MIT and other selective early schools, who still end up deferring the majority of applicants. getting deferred means that you’re definitely still in the running, but don’t count on their word in regards to the upcoming decision. getting deferred is still a very likely scenario.

@serendipity05 DO IB!!! it’ll change your life! (for the better  )

How do I make two weeks past quickly?)):

@Igotmyionyou I really hope it comes out on the 8th

@rosaliefontaine do you know what the specific percentage is for deferall for ED?

I hope so too, but when I spoke to them they sounded pretty sure that it wasn’t.

@Igotmyionyou I’m just curious who you asked, was it the UPenn admission office. Because when I talked to the person that interviewed me just last week they said the 8th but they could have been completely wrong.

Also when do you think they will announce when they are announcing results, tomorrow?

@Igotmyionyou, the best way to pass the next two weeks is to fill out more applications and write essays. Don’t count on long odds.
I don’t recall how many people get deferred, but they usually accept 10% of deferrals. Important to remember, that a percent of the deferrals that will get accepted, are hooked applicants(Donors kids).

@Igotmyionyou Do you happen to know when they made the announcement to confirm the ED release dates the previous years?

They made it on Dec 5th last year, which was the Monday before the Dec 9th decisions.

My parent interviews for Penn, they never get told the date of release…

Yes, I called the Penn admissions office. And I do hope they announce it tomorrow!

I believe that in 2016 they announced on the 5th that it would be the 9th, and in 2015 it was announced on 1st for the 11th

I’m from Nebraska and I was targeting Spanish with interest in Russian and I was rejected from Huntsman but accepted into the college as an international relations major

@Igotmyionyou - when you called admissions, did they give you a date? what did they say? thank you.

Are you Questbridge?

Did anyone get an email from AO that asked the recommenders for additional information and recent academic status? Would that have any detrimental effects on the application? Just received one like an hour ago. thanks!
