Does any one know how many were taken off wait list last year?

According to the Common Data Set Penn has gone to the wait list each of the past 4 years.
2009 96 accepted from wait list
2010 55 accepted from wait list
2011 56 accepted from wait list
2012 87 accepted from wait list

Following up on ACT 4’s data one way to “predict” the number that may be taken off is to assume that none were taken this year in the first phase of wait list acceptances. In prior years that “first phase” took place in early-to-mid May. It didn’t occur this year because the class, after all the acceptances were counted, was full and apparently slightly over subscribed.

In prior years before Penn created an “extended wait list” it used the full waitlist to fill the class. And it then created an extended waitlist to deal with summer melt. This year it went immediately to the extended waitlist.

If we knew how many students were accepted from the full waitlist in prior years, then using ACT4’s numbers, we might be able to predict how many students were taken in those years from the extended waitlist. It’s likely that a similar number will apply this year. This is a hard number to determine. Looking at College Confidential posts for the past 4 years may provide some indication of that number.

Any news, everyone?

Hi, everyone! I called the admissions office today and found out that

1) There were about 100 people on the extended waitlist. I was told that I couldn’t get an exact number, but that was a good estimate.
2) UPenn will not be z-listing.
3) Acceptances from the waitlist were given out starting last week, and we will get our decision between now and June 15th. AKA, the decisions are rolling, so we’ll never really know when we find out… But she did tell me that people were offered admission last week.

Good luck!!

Thank you for sharing the information casker! Did she tell you how many people were admitted last week?

No, she told me that all of that information was confidential. But she did insinuate that more people would be getting off, so I don’t think the overly high yield is going to demolish our chances completely.

If only they chose 87 like they did last year… sigh.

Well I feel like maybe they send out acceptances in waves?

They said rolling admissions. I hate that because it makes me wonder if there are others who have already been admitted!

That’s what I meant by the weekly thing, and that more people would be getting admitted soon! But yeah, it makes me feel nervous that some people have already been accepted.

i mean it’d make more sense to do it in waves; less work for the admissions office to be able to send everything out on one day and have one deadline. maybe since our notices were sent out on a friday, the second wave will be this friday? or maybe it’s just my compulsive need for order that’s wishing for this

any news for anyone today?

No news for me…anyone else?

no news either for me, but I have spoken with a person who got off the wait list last year, and she said her decision came on May 31. So maybe tomorrow’s the day?

LOL, pure speculation here though, nobody quote me on anything :$

I bet we get our hopes up for no reason because there’s no way they would accept more than 10 people And its just a lottery for us anyways, has anybody heard any news or actually talked to someone who was offered a place? Or do you have any news about the next round Upenn accepts other waitlists?

There’s no way it’s a lottery system - when one admit with similar traits to your applicant denies Penn, they pick you. Hopes are better than nothing.

I’m really happy I just found this forum; I guess I’m on the extended list as well, because I received the email saying that “they’re keeping me.” Good luck everyone.

I had thought that email was just a confirmation that I accepted my place on the waitlist

I didn’t hear anything back today so I’m getting a little discouraged…

Looking at all the threads have there only been 3 people who have gotten off the waitlist in general (May 10th)

It doesn’t seem as though anyone else have gotten off at all.
