Is your school private? I go to one a top boarding school, and being in the top 25% here is a real feat. If your school is very, very challenging, colleges will be informed of that through the school profile your college/guidance counselor will provide.

I’m terrible at chancing, but I mean, everything else you have looks great!

lol 25% at my school is not THAT much of a feat. it’s a public school. but it’s prlly the most competitive public school in massachusetts (def within top 5 schools in MA).

Soooo

If you want a realistic shot at any of these schools, try early decision to Duke or Cornell. Its your best chance to “break into a top 10”. You have no chance at either of these schools in the RD round with your GPA.

20more nailed it IMO

goldenboy - I dunno … ED is the round for athletes and legacy ??
I don’t think it is that much better at these schools

Yale, Penn (even ED), Chicago, Cornell = reach (10-33%) due to non-comeptitive GPA. 3.5 means you have received as many B’s as A’s in HS (assuming no C’s). 2340 SAT simply reinforces impression that you underachieved in HS.

Duke, Wash U = low reach (33 to 50%). They will be concerned about your GPA too, but both schools put a lot of emphasis on research background and you are strong in this area.

CMU, NYU = match

UIUC = safety

pls i need a candid answer on this, anyone. i am an international student applying to the university of michigan and i want to apply on the early action basis and my docs and app are complete to submit but i am taking the SAT on december 1 this year, so i dont know if i have a chance at the EA becos the decisions will be released on the 24 of december and idk if i will considered for EA or pushed over to the rolling admission if my SAT scores get to them that late…pls anybody…i need an answer!!!

Your ECs and basically everything except your GPA are absolutely stellar. You don’t need me to tell you that your GPA is an anomaly. Even so, it will hurt you. Decisions at the top schools can seem extremely sporadic- this can work out in your favor. If there’s a reason that your GPA is on the lower side, get your counselor to mention it in his/her letter. Best of luck- sorry I couldn’t chance you per school, but I think they all could really go either way (except maybe CMU and Michigan, your chances should be decent there).

thanks for your help adem96. I’ll be chancin u back in a second.
Anyone else?

LOL at having a 33-50% shot at Duke or WashU with a 3.5 GPA! I think you are fairly uninformed about how selective college admissions is at these schools. After looking at the OP’s profile again, I’m not even sure he/she has a shot at Cornell/Duke in the ED round to make it worth the application fee. There are thousands and thousands of valedictorians in the country and schools like Cornell or Duke or Wash U are going to reject half or more of them. What makes you think that they would even give a second glance at a student with mediocre high school GPA even in general terms when they get their pick of the best students in the country?

I would say even Michigan and UVA are reaches for the OP but even those are no guarantees. I only suggested an ED to either Cornell or Duke as a longshot but I think the OP should work on crafting a very good application to schools like CMU, Michigan, etc. where demonstrating a good fit might make them overlook the GPA blemish. God knows that Yale won’t.

Thanks for your response golden boy. Lol I kinda had a perspective similar to yours in terms of my chances. Anyway thanks again :slight_smile:
